    RELATED APPLICATIONS
  • This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application No. 61/425,941 filed on Dec. 22, 2010, the entirety of which is incorporated herein by reference.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is direct to retail merchandise displays, and more specifically to displays for gift wrap products such as gift bags.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Gift bags can be purchased from retail stores and are typically located near the greeting cards, gift wrap and gift wrap accessories. Gift bags are commonly arranged according to theme. For example, an entire section of a wall display may be devoted to products related to weddings and/or anniversaries. The display may contain various types of merchandise such as gift bags, wrapping paper, gift boxes, greeting cards, bows, ribbons and other gift wrap accessories. The color of the merchandise may be similar, such as white or silver, and the merchandise may contain further printed indicia containing wedding and/or anniversary themed decor such as wedding bells or a bride and groom.
  • Gift bags are also commonly arranged by size wherein all small gift bags are located in one display area , all medium sized gift bags are located in a second area on the display and all large gift bags are located in a third area of the display.
  • Gift bags may also be arranged and displayed by price point. All gift bags, regardless of size or color that are in the same price range are all located within the same section of the display. This arrangement allows a consumer to easily locate a gift bag that is within a specified price range.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention is directed to a gift bag display comprising a display base, a display panel supported at one end by the display base, a plurality of display hooks attached to the display panel and at least two groups of gift bags, each group of gift bags comprising one or more gift bags which are identical to the other gift bags in the same group, and each of the at least two groups of gift bags being different from each of the other groups of gift bags. A first group of gift bags is suspended from a display hook at a first location on the display panel, a second group of gift bags is suspended from a display hook at a second location on the display panel, the second location being at a lower elevation than the first location, and a third group of gift bags is suspended from a display hook at a third location, the third location being lower in elevation than the first and second location. Also, the first, second and third group of gift bags each contain a distinct image, which when viewed on the gift bag display, the combination of images make up a larger image.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the gift bag display of the present invention.
  • FIG. 2 is a front view of the gift bag display of FIG. 1.
  • FIG. 3 is a side view of a portion of the gift bag display from the direction of arrows 3-3.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED AND ALTERNATE EMBODIMENTS
  • The gift bag display 100 of the present invention provides a novel way to display gift bags for sale in a retail environment. The display 100 may include a display base 12, one or more display panels 14 which are attached to the display base 12, a plurality of display hooks 16 which may be removably attached to the one or more display panels 14, and at least two distinct sets of identical gift bags, which when arranged in a particular fashion, the image printed on each of the at least two distinct groups of gift bags depict a larger or combined image or character.
  • The gift bags 18 described herein are of a conventional design, having a front panel and a back panel opposite the front panel with two side panels extending therebetween. The length of the side panels controls the width of the gift bag 18. A bottom panel connects each of the front, back, and side panels to create a closed end. Opposite the closed end is an open end for insertion of a gift or other items into the gift bag 18. The side panels may contain a vertical bisecting crease or fold line, which enables the bag to be neatly folded and packaged or displayed for retail sale. The gift bag 18 may also contain two handles, one handle attached to the front panel and one handle attached to the back panel. The handles may be similar to a cord or rope-like structure, which extend between two holes or openings positioned proximate to the upper edges of the front and back panels along the open end of the gift bag. For example, for each handle, a single piece of cord or rope-like structure may be used. The two free ends of a first cord are inserted into the two holes in the front panel of the gift bag 18 and the two free ends of a second cord are inserted into the two holes in the back panel of the gift bag 18. The cords may inserted into each hole from the outside of the bag to the inside of the bag where each free end of the cord is tied or knotted for secure attachment to the gift bag 18 or alternatively, the cords may be inserted from the inside of the bag to the outside of the bag, where each free end is then tied or knotted. Also, the handles may be die cut out of the front and back panels of the gift bag. Handles may be attached from gusset to gusset or may be taped or glued to the inside of the gift bag. Alternatively, the gift bag 18 may contain other types of handles, such as paperboard handles, plastic handles, or any other suitable type of handle which may or may not be removable from the gift bag. The individual gift bags 18 may also contain a hang tag 20, hanging aperture, or other hanging apparatus that may facilitate hanging or suspending the gift bag 18 from the display hook 16. The hang tags 20 or other hanging apparatus may be removable so that when the gift bag 18 is purchased, the hang tag 20 may be removed from the gift bag 18 by the consumer. The gift bags 18 may alternatively be suspended from the display hooks 16 by the gift bag handles. As further discussed below, each gift bag 18 may contain drawings, images, photos, or other printed indicia on the front panel, back panel, side panels, floor panel or a combination thereof.
  • The groupings of gift bags 1 a-1 c, 2 a,-2 c, 3 a-3 c are displayed on a display panel 14, which is supported by a display base 12. The display panels 14, in a preferred embodiment, are pegboard panels which contain a plurality of pre-positioned mounting holes or openings contained thereon. The pegboard panel may be single or double-sided. Each of the pre-positioned mounting holes may accommodate a display hook 16 or other such attachment mechanisms. The display panel 14 may alternatively be made of metal, laminate, wood, wire, slat wall or other functional or decorative material may be used.
  • Retail display hooks 16 are inserted into the pre-positioned mounting holes on the display panel 14 to provide a support structure from which to hang the gift bags 18. A display hook 16 is typically a horizontal rod having a first end which is configured to be inserted into a pegboard, mating, or other suitable display panel 14, and a second end, opposite the first end, which is slightly upturned so as to prevent merchandise hanging therefrom from falling or sliding off the display hook 14. The second end may also contain a planar face plate to display product or price information. When the display hook 14 is inserted into a pegboard panel, the display hook 14 is positioned perpendicular to the pegboard such that the display hook 16 is projecting outward from the display panel 14. Depending on the length of the display hook 16, several gift bags 18 may be displayed in a parallel fashion by placing the hook through the hang tag 20, hanging aperture or other hanging apparatus contained on each gift bag 18. In a preferred embodiment, all of the gift bags 18 contained on a single display 16 hook are identical so that the front facing gift bag indicates the type of gift bags 18 contained on that particular display hook 16.
  • The display hooks 16 or other hanging apparatus are inserted into the display panel 14 at specific intervals so that at least two groups of gift bags may be arranged in a vertical row, horizontal row or any other display arrangement. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, three distinct gift bag groupings 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c are arranged such that there is some amount of space between each grouping, wherein none of the gift bags 18 from separate groups are overlapping on the display panel 14. The amount of space between each group of gift bags 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c may vary depending on the type of visual arrangement. In a vertical or up-and-down arrangement, the groups of gift bags are preferably vertically aligned on the display and in a horizontal or side-by-side arrangement, each group of gift bags is preferably positioned at the same horizontal elevation or in horizontal alignment. Each of the three groups of gift bags 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c, contain identical gift bags 18, with each of the three groups being separate and distinct from the other groups. Also, in a preferred embodiment, each of the three groups of gift bags 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c, are the same size, however, in alternate embodiments the groups of gift bags may contain gift bags which are a different size from the other groups of gift bags. Each group of gift bags 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c contain portion of a design, drawing, picture or image which make up a larger or combined design, drawing, picture or image when viewed together in a particular arrangement. Preferably, the design, drawing, picture or image is directed to a particular theme or motif. However, each of the groups 1 a-1 c, 2 a-2 c, 3 a-3 c, when viewed alone, contains its own visual image which is identifiable without the other two gift bag groups. For example, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, a first group 20 a or vertical arrangement of gift bags 18 contains a first sub-group 1 a of gift bags 18 located at the highest vertical elevation on the display panel 14 which depict the face of a toy soldier, a second sub-group 1 b of gift bags 18 located at an elevation lower than the first group 1 a of gift bags 18 containing an image of the midsection of the toy soldier, and a third sub-group 1 c of gift bags 18, located at the lowest elevation in relation to the first 1 a and second 1 b sub-groups of gift bags 18, which shows a lower section of the toy solider. Each bag 18 in each of the three sub-groupings 1 a, 1 b, 1 c contains an individual image that has its own visual representation (face, midsection, lower section of toy soldier), apart from the larger main group, but the individual images are also part of a larger combined image (toy soldier), when viewed together with the other sub-groups on the display panel 14. Another example, shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, includes a second group 20 b of gift bags 18 having a first sub-group 2 a of gift bags 18 located at the highest vertical elevation on the display panel 14 which contain an image of the face of Santa Claus, a second sub-group 2 b of gift bags 18 located at an elevation lower than the first sub-group 2 a of gift bags 18 containing an image of the midsection of Santa Claus, and a third sub-group 2 c of gift bags 18, located at the lowest vertical elevation in relation to the first 2 a and second 2 b sub-groups of gift bags 18, which shows a lower section of Santa Claus. Yet another example, shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, includes a third group 20 c of gift bags 18 having a first sub-group 3 a of gift bags having an image of the top of a Christmas tree (a star on top of the tree) printed thereon, a second sub-group 3 b of gift bags 18 having an image of a midsection of a Christmas tree (ornaments hanging from the tree) printed thereon, and a third sub-group 3 c of gift bags 18 having an image of a lower or bottom section of a Christmas tree (gifts placed around the bottom of the tree), wherein the three sub-groups 3 a, 3 b, 3 c are placed at decreasing horizontal elevations in a single vertical row. The combined image of the three sub-groups 3 a, 3 b, 3 c, as configured on the display panel 14, shows a complete combined image of a Christmas tree, while each individual sub-group 3 a, 3 b, 3 c of gift bags 18 contains singular portions of a Christmas tree which each have visual appeal apart from the larger group. The sub-groups of gift bags may be arranged in any particular order or position, such as vertical rows, horizontal rows, a circular arrangement, or in any other geometric shape which can be configured on the display panel. Several displays having two or more gift bag sub-groups forming a combined image may be contained on the same display in a side-by-side, up-and-down, or any other type of space sharing arrangement. For example, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, three groups of gift bags, each having three sub-groups is shown on a single display panel 14. While the gift bag display 100 described herein and shown in the figures, have three groups of gift bags (soldier, Santa, Christmas tree) comprising three sub-groups of gift bags (top section, mid-section, lower section), any number of groups may be placed onto a display and each group may have two or more sub-groups and the examples set forth herein are intended only to illustrate the invention and are not meant to limit the invention in any way. The display panel or panels may be single or double sided so that groupings of two or more gift bag sub-groups can be placed on both sides of the display. Any number of gift bag groupings can be contained on a single gift bag display and two or more displays can be connected to form a string of display panels.
