Abstract
A wall board having a shape that can mimic any desired visual representation. For example, a wall board as that disclosed, if desired to be in the shape of a butterfly, will be shaped, either formed during manufacture, or cut, into an outline of a butterfly. The wall board can have added functionality by utilizing pegboard wall board. Further, the wall board disclosed may optionally provide for graphics to illustrate better the desired shape or image. The graphics can be of many varieties, including, but not limited to, laminates of plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts substantially conforming to the shape of the wall board; and hand applied colorants, to represent a more realistic image of the desired shaped. Additionally, during installation on a wall, the wall board can include spacers set between the wall and the board, to create a three dimensional appearance of the image coming from the wall.
Description
- The present invention relates to a decorative wall covering. More particularly, the decorative wall covering comprises a shaped wall board of any size whose outline or perimeter depicts any shape desired.
- There exists in the prior art any number of wall coverings used decoratively. Specifically, these include wall board such as paneling, wainscoting, and other decorative means used to finish an interior or exterior wall. Additionally, the prior art wall coverings include functionality, such as organization means. An example of this would be pegboard which is generally comprised of wall board having spaced holes therebetween for receiving pegs. The pegs, once inserted into the holes and held in place thereby, are capable of receiving and displaying objects, i.e. tools, for organization and ready accessibility.
- The organization type of wall board has heretofore not incorporated a decorative element. More specifically, this type of wall board prior art lacks any shaping, other than a standard geometric square or rectangular shape. This is because this type of wall board have never been thought of as a decorative item.
- The present invention comprises a wall board having a shape that can mimic any desired visual representation. For example, a wall board as that disclosed, if desired to be in the shape of a butterfly, will be shaped, either formed during manufacture, or cut, into an outline of a butterfly. The wall board can have added functionality by utilizing pegboard wall board. Further, the wall board disclosed may optionally provide for graphics to illustrate better the desired shape or image. The graphics can be of many varieties, including, but not limited to, means for applying color such as by paint, paint-by-numbers, markers and the like, or a laminate of the desired image can be overlain and affixed to the wall board to represent a more realistic image of the desired shaped. Additionally, during installation on a wall, the wall board can include spacers set between the wall and the board, to create a three dimensional appearance of the image coming from the wall.
- It is thus an object of the present invention to provide a shaped wall board that has an outline of a particular image.
- It is another object of the present invention to provide for shaped wall board that may be of any outline image including, but not limited to, plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts.
- It is yet another object of the present invention to provide a wall board comprising pegboard and pegs to allow the wall board of the present invention to be used decoratively, and functionally as an organizer.
- It is still yet another object of the present invention to provide for a shaped wall board that is installed onto a wall with spacers resulting in the three dimensional appearance of the wall board display coming from the wall.
- These and other objectives and advantages of the present invention will be more readily apparent from the following Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments, and a review of the drawings, in which:

FIG. 1 is a front elevation view of one preferred embodiment of the shaped wall board present invention shown in the shape of a butterfly wherein the wall board is comprised of pegboard; -
FIG. 2 is a front elevation view of one preferred embodiment of the shaped wall board present invention shown in the shape of a soccer ball wherein the wall board is comprised of pegboard; -
FIG. 3 is a front elevation view of one preferred embodiment of the shaped wall board present invention shown in the shape of a puppy wherein the wall board is comprised of pegboard; -
FIG. 4 is a perspective view ofFIG. 1 shown without the graphic image; -
FIG. 5 is a fragmented perspective view ofFIG. 1 shown installed on a wall with pegs, and; -
FIG. 6 is a cross section view ofFIG. 5 taken at line A-A with spacers located between the wall and present invention. - As seen in
FIG. 1 , thedisplay 10 is comprised ofwall board 12 of conventional manufacture. Thewall board 12 is substantially two dimensional having a height and width. Conventionallyavailable wall board 12 has a thickness in the range of about one-tenth ( 1/10″) inch to seven-thirty seconds ( 7/32″) inch, with three-sixteenths ( 3/16″) inch seemingly common. - The
display 10 ofFIG. 1 is shown having an outline or perimeter shape featuring abutterfly 14, in a manner by which thedisplay 10 is manufactured or cut into that shape. InFIG. 1 , this preferred embodiment of thedisplay 10 also incorporates agraphic image 16 of a particular butterfly. Thegraphic image 16 ofFIG. 1 is a laminate depicting, in this case, a butterfly, that is affixed to theboard 12, by glue or other conventional adherence means. It is noted that the outline of theboard 12 substantially conforms to the shape of a butterfly as seen inFIG. 1 . As examples ofother outline board 12 shapes,FIG. 2 depicts asoccer ball 16, whileFIG. 3 depicts a puppy 18. However, it should be understood that any outline or perimeter shaping of theboard 12 is possible and can conform to shapes including, but not limited to, plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts. Furthermore, general height and width dimensions for the preferred embodiments of thedisplay 10 can be varied, depending upon the size of the wall onto which thedisplay 10 is to be installed and the area of wall coverage desired by an end user. To this end, large wall area and large alarge display 10 can be provided and installed in sections so that all sections, when viewed together, have an outline or perimeter shape of the desired image. - The
board 12 shown inFIGS. 1-3 comprises pegboard, containing spaced apartholes 20. The spacing of theholes 20, and hole diameter, is conventionally known, and can be customized pursuant to the need of the end user. However, it is not uncommon to have hole spacing of one-half ½″) inch to three (3″) inches apart, with hole diameters ranging from one-eighth (⅛″) inch to one-fourth (¼″) inch. Additionally, while pegboard is shown, theboard 12 can be withoutholes 20, and still conform to a preferred embodiment of thedisplay 10 so long as it has an outline or perimeter conforming to the shape desired and hereinabove described. - In either case, whether the
board 12 hasholes 20 or not, the graphics disclosed above in the form of a laminate, can alternatively be applied by hand for end user customization. As such, it is disclosed that anunfinished board 12 having an outline shape as disclosed herein, as shown inFIG. 4 , can be finished with a colorant such as paint, crayons, markers, and the like. Furthermore, it is disclosed here that anunfinished board 12 can be segmented or lined such that graphics are applied in a color-by-number or color-by-segment manner (not shown). -
FIG. 4 further depicts thedisplay 10 ofFIG. 1 (without applied graphics) in perspective view. This view provides the reader with an appreciation of the substantial two dimensionality of thewall board 12.FIG. 5 depicts thedisplay 10 installed as a wall covering. Thedisplay 10 is affixed to thewall 30 withappropriate fasteners 32 such as screws or bolts, or the like. InFIG. 6 ,spacers 34 can be used to offset thedisplay 10 from thewall 30 to give thedisplay 10 an appearance that it is three dimensional with respect to thewall 30. In the pegboard format of thewall board 12, aholding device 36 such as pegs, hooks, pegged cups, trays, dishes and the like can be added to thedisplay 10 to result in an organizer for holding objects (not shown). Thepegs 36 can be customized and made thematic with respect to thegraphic image 16. For example, in theFIG. 1 butterfly 14graphic image 16, apeg 36 can be formed in the shape of a flower (not shown) because butterflies are attracted to flowers. - Those of ordinary skill in the art will appreciate that various modifications can be made to the components described above, and all such modifications falling within the scope of the invention are deemed to be included within the scope of this patent.
Claims (18)
1. A display for covering a wall wherein said display comprises a substantially two dimensional wall board and has an outline conforming to a shape of an image.
2. The display of claim 1 , wherein said wall board comprises pegboard.
3. The display of claim 1 , wherein a graphic of said image is overlain and affixed to said board and substantially comports with said outline of said board.
4. The display of claim 1 , wherein said image is taken from a group consisting of plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts.
5. In the display of claim 2 , said pegboard is combined with a plurality of pegs wherein each said peg engages with said pegboard in any number of spaced apart holes on said pegboard.
6. In the display of claim 5 , wherein said pegs are designed in an associative relationship with the said image of said wall board.
7. In the display of claim 1 , said wall board being segmented into areas onto which a colorant can be applied.
8. A display for covering a wall wherein said display comprises wall board and has an outline conforming to a shape of an image, wherein said wall board further comprises pegboard, and further wherein a graphic of said image is overlain and affixed to said board and substantially comports with said outline of said board.
9. The display of claim 8 , wherein said image is taken from a group consisting of plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts.
10. The display of claim 8 , wherein said pegboard is combined with a plurality of pegs wherein each said peg engages with said pegboard in any one of a plurality of spaced apart holes on said pegboard.
11. The display of claim 8 , wherein said pegs are designed in an associative relationship with the said image of said wall board.
12. A wall covering comprising, in combination,
a display comprising a substantially two dimensional wall board and having an outline conforming to a shape of an image;
a graphic of said image whereby said graphic is overlain and affixed to said wall board and substantially comports with said outline of said wall board, and;
means for fastening said to display to a wall.
13. The wall covering of claim 12 , wherein said wall board is pegboard.
14. The wall covering of claim 13 , further comprising a plurality of pegs wherein each said peg engages with said pegboard in any one of a plurality of spaced apart holes located on said pegboard.
15. The wall covering of claim 12 , wherein spacers are located between said display and said wall.
16. The wall covering of claim 12 , wherein said image is taken from a group consisting of plants, animals, insects, letters, symbols, animated characters, a person or people, inanimate objects, and visual arts.
17. The wall covering of claim 14 , wherein said pegs are designed in an associative relationship with the said image of said pegboard.
18. The wall covering of claim 12 , wherein said display is sectionable for large wall area coverage.
