Abstract

A throwing game including a target comprised of a horizontal base portion and a vertical mark portion. The vertical mark portion includes a pair of vertical posts extending upwardly from the horizontal base portion. The pair of vertical posts have a plurality of crossbars extending therebetween. A plurality of projectiles are adapted for being thrown at the crossbar of the vertical mark portion of the target.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The present invention relates to a throwing game and more particularly pertains to building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board.

The use of games for amusement purposes is known in the prior art. More specifically, games for amusement purposes heretofore devised and utilized for the purpose of providing amusement are known to consist basically of familiar, expected and obvious structural configurations, notwithstanding the myriad of designs encompassed by the crowded prior art that have been developed for the fulfillment of countless objectives and requirements.

By way of example, U.S. Pat. No. 3,717,348 to Bowers discloses a throwing game comprised of several hand-held posts for catching a pair of rubber balls attached by an elastic cord. U.S. Pat. No. 3,701,531, also to Bowers, discloses a tree like structure with a vertical trunk and branches for catching balls joined with elastic. U.S. Pat. No. 2,797,924 to Stewart discloses a projectile comprised of a pair of weights joined by a rope or chain, to be thrown with the intention to be caught on a horizontal cross ball supported on a frame. U.S. Pat. No. 5,165,694 to Kraushaar discloses a projectile and target game comprised of target rungs for catching a pair of weighted bags interconnected by a web member.

While these devices fulfill their respective, particular objective and requirements, the aforementioned patents do not describe a throwing game for building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board.

In this respect, the throwing game according to the present invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and designs of the prior art, and in doing so provides an apparatus primarily developed for the purpose of building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board.

Therefore, it can be appreciated that there exists a continuing need for a new and improved throwing game that can be used for building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board. In this regard, the present invention substantially fulfills this need.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In the view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of games for amusement purposes now present in the prior art, the present invention provides an improved throwing game. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new and improved throwing game that has all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

To attain this, the present invention essentially comprises a target comprised of a horizontal base portion and a vertical mark portion. The horizontal portion has a generally U-shaped configuration. The horizontal portion includes a pair of elongated members disposed in a spaced and parallel relationship. The elongated members have a stabilizer bar extending between opposed free ends thereof. The vertical mark portion includes a pair of vertical posts extending upwardly from the pair of elongated members. The pair of vertical posts have free upper ends. The free upper ends have a top crossbar extending therebetween. The pair of vertical posts have a middle crossbar extending therebetween downwardly of the top crossbar. The pair of vertical posts have a bottom crossbar extending therebetween downwardly of the middle crossbar. A plurality of projectiles are adapted for being thrown at the crossbar of the vertical mark portion of the target. The projectiles each is comprised of a pair of ball having a tether secured therebetween.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are, of course, additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.

In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction and to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of description and should not be regarded as limiting.

As such, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the conception, upon which this disclosure is based, may readily be utilized as a basis for the designing of other structures, methods and systems for carrying out the several purposes of the present invention. It is important, therefore, that the claims be regarded as including such equivalent constructions insofar as they do not depart from the spirit and scope of the present invention.

It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved throwing game that has all the advantages of the prior art games for amusement purposes and none of the disadvantages.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a new and improved throwing game that may be easily and efficiently manufactured and marketed.

It is a further object of the present invention to provide a new and improved throwing game that is of durable and reliable construction.

An even further object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved throwing game that is susceptible of a low cost of manufacture with regard to both materials and labor, and which accordingly is then susceptible of low prices of sale to the consuming public, thereby making such a throwing game economically available to the buying public.

Even still another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved throwing game for building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board.

Lastly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved throwing game including a target comprised of a horizontal base portion and a vertical mark portion. The vertical mark portion includes a pair of vertical posts extending upwardly from the horizontal base portion. The pair of vertical posts have a plurality of crossbar extending therebetween. A plurality of projectiles are adapted for being thrown at the crossbar of the vertical mark portion of the target.

These together with other objects of the invention, along with the various features of novelty that characterize the invention, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and the specific objects attained by its uses, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there is illustrated preferred embodiments of the invention.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular, to figures one through two thereof, the preferred embodiment of the new and improved throwing game embodying the principles and concepts of the present invention and generally designated by the [0023] reference number 10 will be described.
Specifically, it will be noted in the various figures that the device relates to a throwing game for building up points by scoring via thrown objects against a game board. In its broadest context, the device consists of a target and a plurality of projectiles. Such components are individually configured and correlated with respect to each other so as to attain the desired objective. [0024]
The target [0025] 12 is comprised of a horizontal base portion 14 and a vertical mark portion 16. Note FIG. 1. The horizontal portion 14 has a generally U-shaped configuration. The horizontal portion 14 includes a pair of elongated members 18 disposed in a spaced and parallel relationship. The elongated members 18 have a stabilizer bar 20 extending between opposed free ends thereof. The vertical mark portion 16 includes a pair of vertical posts 22 extending upwardly from the pair of elongated members 18. The pair of vertical posts 22 have free upper ends. The free upper ends have a top crossbar 24 extending therebetween. The pair of vertical posts 22 have a middle crossbar 26 extending therebetween downwardly of the top crossbar 24. The pair of vertical posts 22 have a bottom crossbar 28 extending therebetween downwardly of the middle crossbar 26.
The plurality of [0026] projectiles 30 are adapted for being thrown at the crossbar 24,26,28 of the vertical mark portion 16 of the target 12. The projectiles 30 each is comprised of a pair of ball 32 having a tether 34 secured therebetween.
The present invention is used by at least two players who will attempt to wrap the projectile's [0027] 30 around the crossbar 24,26,28. Note FIG. 2. The crossbar 24,26,28 will each be assigned a point value. In the preferred embodiment, the top crossbar 24 has the highest point value. The players will strive to reach a predetermined point total to be declared the winner. The present invention can also be played as a team game.
As to the manner of usage and operation of the present invention, the same should be apparent from the above description. Accordingly, no further discussion relating to the manner of usage and operation will be provided. [0028]
With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and the manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention. Claims

What is claimed as being new and desired to be protected by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:

1. A throwing game comprising, in combination:

a target comprised of a horizontal base portion and a vertical mark portion, the horizontal portion having a generally U-shaped configuration, the horizontal portion including a pair of elongated members disposed in a spaced and parallel relationship, the elongated members having a stabilizer bar extending between opposed free ends thereof, the vertical mark portion including a pair of vertical posts extending upwardly from the pair of elongated members, the pair of vertical posts having free upper ends, the free upper ends having a top crossbar extending therebetween, the pair of vertical posts having a middle crossbar extending therebetween downwardly of the top crossbar, the pair of vertical posts having a bottom crossbar extending therebetween downwardly of the middle crossbar; and

a plurality of projectiles adapted for being thrown at the crossbar of the vertical mark portion of the target, the projectiles each being comprised of a pair of ball having a tether secured therebetween.

2. A throwing game comprising, in combination:

a target comprised of a horizontal base portion and a vertical mark portion, the vertical mark portion including a pair of vertical posts extending upwardly from the horizontal base portion, the pair of vertical posts having a plurality of crossbar extending therebetween in a spaced relationship; and

a plurality of projectiles adapted for being thrown at the crossbar of the vertical mark portion of the target.

3. The throwing game as set forth in claim 2, wherein the horizontal portion has a generally U-shaped configuration, the horizontal portion including a pair of elongated members disposed in a spaced and parallel relationship, the elongated members having a stabilizer bar extending between opposed free ends thereof.

4. The throwing game as set forth in claim 2, wherein the plurality of crossbar including a top crossbar, a middle crossbar downwardly of the top crossbar, and a bottom crossbar downwardly of the middle crossbar.

5. The throwing game as set forth in claim 2, wherein the projectiles each are comprised of a pair of balls having a tether secured therebetween.
