Description

Sept. 1 1937. M. E. PARADISE ,0
GROUND CLIP Filed July 23, 1956 Patented Sept. 14, 1931 GROUND CLIP -Maurice E. Paradise, Chicago, Ill., assignor to General Laminated Products, Inc.. Chicago,
7 llL, a corporation of Illinois v Application July 23, 1936, Serial No. 92,285
2 Claims. (01. 113-324) This invention relates to a ground clip particularly for use with vacuum tube sockets. In radio apparatus it is .customary to rivet the tube sockets at several points to a metal chassis pan. While such pans are cadmium plated to protect against rusting and promote soldering, it is frequently dimcult to solder because of the large mass of the pan. An object of this invention is to provide a clip which may be riveted to the pan with the socket and clip riveted to plurality of apertures 5 for plug prongs are pro 20 vided giving access to contacts below sheet I.
A centering disc 6 mounted by an eyelet'l may be provided. Any other type of socket may be used instead.
A ground clip I 01' generally semi'circular 25 outline is provided. This clip extends from aperture 2 to aperture Sand has registering apertures. Ears I2 extend outwardly from the edge of clip I0 and provide soldering surfaces. As shown, clip III is ribbon shaped so that the inside edge clears the active top socket area.
To a chassis pan I5. socket I is attached. Pan ll has an opening It to clear the active socket face. Below pan ll, clip Iii is disposed, its inner 5 edge being outside of the opening I6. Each clip I0 and socket. I are rigidly united to pan I5 by eyelets I1 and I8 passing through apertures I and 3. Ears l2 maybe bent away from'the chassis pan and used as a ground lug.
What is claimed is: v
1. In combination with a radio chassis metalpanel having an aperture,-a vacuum tube type socket disposed on one side of said panel with the active socket face exposed through said aperl5 ture, 'a ground clip-comprising a semi-circular metallic strip having soldering ears extending from the outer edge thereof; said ground clip being disposed as to hug the socket, and common metallic means for fastening said socket and clip on said panel and forming a ground connection between said clip and panel.
2. The structure of claim 1 wherein the ground clip is a flat strip and is disposed with its flat surface against the panel surface and wherein the ears extend up from the panel surface for soldering purposes.
