- This invention relates to closures for con tainers, and its general object is to provide a handy top for containers, in the form of a cap primarilydesigned for use with collapsible tubes, that can be applied to the neck of tubes nowin general use and retained thereon until the contents have been completely dispensed therefrom.

2 Claims. (01.221-60) I This invention relates to closures for con tainers, and its general object is to provide a handy top for containers, in the form of a cap primarilydesigned for use with collapsible tubes, that can be applied to the neck of tubes nowin general use and retained thereon until the contents have been completely dispensed therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a closure for a collapsible tube that allows the contents to be easily and expeditiously dispensed therefrom when needed, but will seal the contents against foreign matter and air when not in use.
I Another object of the invention is to provide a dispensing cap for collapsible tubes thatcan be conveniently actuated with very little efiort, is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to apply, and extremely eflicient in operation, use and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features oi. construction and-in the combination and arrangement oi the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accomthe appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Referring to the drawing in detail, it will be noted that I have illustrated my device as being appliedto a collapsible tube, but I want it understood that it can be used with any type of container with which it is capable of performing its of the tube have been completely dispensed therefrom.

Mounted for rotation in the groove 5 is the valve means of my device which is preferably formed from a single strip of material arranged to provide a ring portion 6 received inthe groove,

The fingers are fixed together by a rivet or the like 8 which likewise holds the ring portion within the groove, as I iiii In order to limit the rotation of the valve means on the body I, I employ a stop means which includes a pin 9 extending "through the ring portion and receivable within a recess I 0 25 The ring portion has arranged therein an opening I I to registerwith the passageway 4, and an elongated outwardly flared recess I2 is provided in the outer surface of the ring portion about the opening H, as best shown in Figure l, for the purpose of providing a pocket to receive a toothbrushor'the like in removing a portion of the contents of the tube, as will be apparent.
In order to provide a leak proof connection between the ring portion and the body of my device, I employ a gasket l3 that is mounted in a recess M in the'ring portion, and the gasket is disposed about the opening I l, but extends a considerable distance laterally thereof" to overlie the outlet end of the passageway 4 to seal the same 40 whe the valve means is in closed position, as shown in Figure 3. However, when the valve means is disposed to open position as shown in the passageway 4 and the opening I l, to allow for the passage of the contents of the tube'therefrom. f
In Figure 5 I have illustrated a slightly modified/1 form, in that the gasket has been eliminated and the ring portion 6 is provided with a recess IE to receive the free portion of a pin l 6 that is secured to the body I, instead of to the ring portion, as shown in the preferred form.
In the use of my device with a collapsible tube, it will be obvious that the usual cap is removed 55 from the tube and the device is threaded thereon. When it is desired to dispense the contents of the tube therefrom, the handle I is moved to dispose the opening II in registration with the passageway 4, as shown in Figure 4, and of course when the desired amount has been dispensed the valve is moved to its normal or closed position as shown in Figure 3.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A dispensing device for containers, comprising a body having an annular groove therein, an outlet means opening into the groove, means for detachably connecting the body to a container with the outlet means in communication therewith, valve means formed from a single strip of material and including a ring portion mounted for rotation in the groove, said ring portion having an opening therein to register with the outlet means, sealingmeans for the outletmeans and carried by the ring portion, means to limit the rotation of the ring portion and fingers formed on the ends of and extending outwardly from the ring portion, said fingers being fixed together in face to face contact for securing the ring portion in the groove and for providing a handle for rotating the same.
2. A dispensing device for containers, comprising a body having an annular groove surrounding the same and outlet means opening into the groove, means for detachably connecting the body to a container with the outlet means in communi-- cation therewith, valve means formed from a single strip of material and including a ring portion mounted for rotation in the groove, said ring portion having an opening therein to register with the outlet means, and a recess in the outer surface thereof and being outwardly flared from the opening to provide an elongated pocket, fingers extending from the ends of the ring portion, means for securing the fingers together to provide a handle for the valve means, and means to limit the movement of the valve means.
