UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
l JOSEPH 0. WHITE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN TWINE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 191,788, dated June 12, 1877; application filed April 11, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH o. WHETE, of
A in part section to show that the same is hollow. Figs. 2 and 3 are end views.
The object of this invention is to produce an ornamental cord-holder combined with a cord-cutter, for the use of stores or other places where cord is used.
Referring to the drawing, letter A is the cord-holder, made of wood or metal or any other substance, as the case may be. This cord-holder is made hollow for the reception of a ball of twine, and is provided with a stationary head, a,.and a movable head, 12. The holder A is supported from the Boot or counter by a standard, B, which is provided with a foot or base piece, U, which is pierced with one or more holes, through which screws f f are placed, by which the holder and stand are secured to the counter or table.
The standard and-base or foot can be of any shape, and may, if desirable, be used for advertising. A
To the top of the holder A is placed the cord-cutter D, which consists of a blade of steel, E, sharpened, supported on an ornamental bracket, F, which is fastened to the top of the holder A at a. The bracket may be also used for advertising, and the form of said bracket may be of any shape.
The holder A may be of any form. It may be of the form of a spool of cotton, as shown in the drawing, or it may be of the form of a bottle. The shape is to be governed according to that branch of trade into which it is to be used. On the head a of the holder A is placed a calendar, and on head 12 is placed a thermometer.
As other things may be placed on these heads by way of ornamentationsuch as a clock or likenesses-I do not, therefore, wish to be understood as confining myself to the use of a calendar or thermometer.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim- As a new article of manufacture, a twineholder,.consisting of the holder A, with the fixed head a and the movable head b, ornamented as described, the standard B, footpiece 0, having screw-holes, bracket F, with the twine-cutter D secured to its upper part, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
JOSEPH 0. WHITE.
