Description

Patented Aug. 21, 1934 BROOM Max Diepold, Mosbach, Germany Application October 1, 1932, Serial No. 635,787 In Germany October 7, 1931 1 Claim. (01. 15-469) This invention relates to a broom in which the transverse element, which accommodates the bunches of bristles, is guided in a frame. A part of the frame is oscillatably mounted on hinges 5 so that the bristles can be exchanged without much difficulty. The oscillatable part of the frame is connected to the rest of the frame by screws, inwardly bent tongues being stamped from the oscillatable frame so that they project into the space between the rigid and oscillatable portion of the frame and prevent a slipping of the transverse element from the frame, besides securely holding the bunches of bristles.
The invention differs from constructions heretofore proposed chiefly in that the handle is provided with a slot and guided through a tubular portion of the frame. Wing nut screws extend through this slot in the handle and connect the handle to the frame by clamping.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig. 1 shows the broom in front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken at right angles to Fig. 1.
A frame a, made of thick sheet metal in two parts, is composed of a frame part I) connected at its upper end by hinges to the frame part a and detachably connected thereto at its lower end by means of screws 0. Tongues d are stamped out of the lower bar of the frame part b and bent towards the inside of the frame so that a better distribution of the bunches of bristles and a secure holding thereof is obtained. The frame a, Z) is widened to form a tubular element f for accommodating a handle c. This tubular element f has screws g, which extend through a slot 2 in the handle 6 and are provided with Wing nuts, so that the handle e can be fixed in and released from the tubular element 1.
If it is necessary to replace a worn brush, which'consists of a transverse element It guided in the frame a, b and bunches of bristles connected in known manner therewith, the screws 0 are removed, thereby releasing the frame part b, the worn brush it, h can then be removed and replaced by a new brush when the device is again ready for use. The handle e, which acts on the transverse element h can be adjusted according to the wear of the bristles h by loosening the screws, the bent tongues d preventing the transverse element h from dropping out of the frame.
I claim A broom including a handle, a transverse head detachably secured thereto and provided with bristles, a frame within which said head is slidable and having a tubular portion slidably receiving said handle, said handle having a slot justed.
MAX DIEPOLD.
