Description
June 16, 1931. OCKYENDEN 1,809,943
BOOKMARKER Filed March 24, 1950 Patented June 16, 1931 PIERCE OCKENDEN, OF EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA, ASSIGN'OR OF ONE-HALF TO 1 WILLIAM LEE, F EDMONTON, CANADA BOOKMARKER Application filed March 24, 1930. Serial No. 438,377.
The invention relates to a bookmarker, as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
The invention, consists essentially in clipping the marking cords, ribbons or other length of material to the cover or to a section oi the book and means employed to accomplish this.
The objects of the invention are to elimie nate the misplacing or loss of the marker and facilitate the marking either in fiction reading, studying or bookkeeping pursuits in factin any place where books, files or file wrappers may be used; to maintain both book and marker in good condition at all times and adapt one size of marker to many difierent sizes of books; to insure a secure fastening for the marker at all times and fur nish to the public an article that will lend itself to ornamental efiects for-certain classes of readers and plain effects for other uses;
' and generally to provide a useful article at a moderate price for libraries, offices and residences. y
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevational View showing the marker clip attached to the cover of a book and the marker projecting therefrom.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of an open book showing the marker extending from the clip.
Figure 3 is and marking. V
Figure 4 is a perspective detail of a grip member of the clip.
Like numerals of reference indicate correspondingparts in the various figures.
a perspective detail of the clip Referring to the drawings, the numeral 15' indicates the grip members of the'extensible clip, each of these grip members being formed With the'flat hook 16 having the orifice 17 through the hook and the orifice 18 through the bend of the hook and the clamping flanges 19 and 20. e v
The clamping flanges 19 and 20 engage the elastic 21 which stretches so that the hooks or grips may engage the book cover 22. y The marker 23 which may be of silk cords,
ribbon or any other suitable material is tied around the bar 24 formed between said orifices and in attaching the clip to the book cover the marker is thrown outwardly and then drawn into the place to be marked.
Briefly it may be said that in operation the clip is hooked on usually to a board cover, a
stiff file back or to a group of leaves sufficient to give it a purchase and in hooking it to the book or other article the elastic is stretched in order that the grip may hold, the marker is then drawn into the place to be marked as explained in the foregoing. i
What I claim is A bookmarker comprising a resilient strip of material, a pair of flat hooks having clamp extensions secured to the ends of said material and holes through the bills and backs and a string threaded through one of said hooks and fastened andiadapted to be tied to the other hook.
Signed at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada,
this fifth day of March, 1930.
PIERCE OCKENDEN.
