My invention relates to a flooring and ceiling tool, and more especially to a combined pinch bar and nail puller having means associated therewith for using the same as a tool for holding flooring or ceiling in place while the same is being nailed.

An object of my invention is to provide a combined tool for use in holding ceiling and flooring in position while the same is being secured in its proper place, said tool having other features as will hereafter ap- Jear.

Figure 4 is a reverse view of Figure 2 showing only the lower portion thereof.

Referring more particularly to the drawings thenumeral 10 indicates an ordmary pinch bar having the pinch bar portion 11 and the nail pulling portion 12 which has the portion 13 therein which is adaptedto engage nails and pull the same, and which can also be used as a wire stretcher by engaging the wire in the said notch and using the member 10 in the same manner as shown in Figure 1, by having the prong 14: embedded in some stationary object.

This member 10 also has the prongs 15 on the side thereof so that these prongs may be engaged in some stationary object, for

the purpose of using the same as a wire stretcher or for using the same as a flooring or ceilingtool, it being evident that these prongs 15 may be embedded in the side of the stationary object such as a oist 16 if so desired instead of having the prongs 1 1 embedded in the edge of the member 16.

The member 10 has the flattened portion 17 on the rear side thereof, and when the flooring mechanism is not desired to be used and is in folded position as shown by the dotted lines in Figure 1, this portion 17 may serve as a hammer for driving nails and other objects.

Projecting from the rear surface of the member 10 is the projection 18 which has the pin 19 projecting therethrough, said pin 19 being adapted toalso pierce the forked portion 20 of the member 21, and the lower end of this member 21 is curved and has the transversely disposed groove 22 therein, which is adapted to fit over the tongue 23 of the ceiling or flooring 24, it being evident that in casethe reverse operation should be desired in the placingof flooring or ceiling, and should the groove in the ceiling'be outward then this member 21 can have a tongue 'on the end thereof instead of having the groove 22.

This member 21 is pivoted on the pin 19 and when it is desired to use this tool for other purposes the same can be folded up as'shown by the dotted lines in Figure 1 to the parts there shown and the pin 25 pierces the member 10 and has the latch 26 thereon,

which is adapted to be rotated to cause the button to engage the groove 22 in the member 21, and to hold the same in folded position while the tool is being used for other purposes.

In the drawings and specification I have set forth a preferred embodiment of my invention, and although specific terms are employed, they are used ina generic and descriptive sense only, and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being set forth in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a combined flooring and ceiling tool, 9

an elongated member having a pinch bar on one end thereof and a hooked portion on the other end thereof, the free end of said hook having nail pulling means therein, a plurality of prongs on the lower end of said hooked portion, a prong situated on each side of said hooked portion, said prongs being adapted to engage a stationary object such as a joist, a pivoted member mounted intermediate the ends of the body portion of said member, a groove in the free end of said pivoted member adapted to engage the tongue of flooring, ceiling and the like, a latch member mounted on said tool and having an outwardly turned projection thereon, said latch member being adapted to engage the groove in the end of the pivoted member when said pivoted member is folded alongside the body member of said tool, said prongs on said body member being adapted to engage a stationary object, and said pivoted member being adapted to force said ceiling, flooring and the like in position to hold the same while the said ceiling, flooring and the like is secured in position.

In a combined flooring and ceiling tool, a body member, a pinch bar integral with one end of said body member, a hooked portion at the other end of said body member, nail pulling mechanism in the free end of said hooked portion, a plurality of prongs on the lower end of said hooked portion, a prong on each side of said hooked portion, a member pivotally mounted on said body portion intermediate its ends, said pivoted member extending downwardly and being curved outwardly and having a groove in the lower end thereof adapted to engage the tongue on ceiling, flooring and the like, said rongs being adapted to be embedded in a ]OiSt and the like for holding the tool in position while the pivoted member forces the ceiling, flooring and the like in position where the same may be secured by nails or other means, and latch means mounted on said body portion adapted to engage the said groove in said pivoted member to hold said pivoted member in folded position when not in use alongside the said body portion.
