This invention relates to slide buckles of the type having a fixed intermediate bar, the buckle being employed for adjusting the length of a strap, webbing, or the like, with out penetrating the material threaded therethrough.
The obj ects of the invention are to provide from a single piece of wire a slide buckle including a fixed intermediate bar positioned in the plane of the buckle; to provide such a bar with a series of spaced single-peaked humps extending out of the plane of the buckle; to provide a reversible slide buckle having a bar formed with series of spaced l single-peaked humps extending in opposite directions out of the plane of the buckle; and to provide a slide buckle, including a fixed intermediate bar, from a single piece of wire the metal of the extremities of which are each united with engaging metal of the` buckle in permanent intimate union. With these and other objects in view, as may become apparent from the within disclosures, the invention consists not only of the particular form herein pointed out and illustrated in the drawings but readily admits of certain modifications within the scope of what hereinafter may be claimed.
The character of the invention may be best understood by reference to one illustrative device embodying` the invention and illustrat-ed by the accompanying` drawings in which the Figure 1 is an upright elevation of the slide buckle of which a reversed view would be identical; the Figure 2 is a sectional View of the buckle on the dotted line 2 2 in the previous figure; and the Figure 3 is an end elevation of the buckle.
The device is preferably made from a single piece of wire Of which the cross-section is square although any other wire may be advantageously employed therefor. A middle portion of the wire is bent to form a substantially rectangular frame having the upper bar 1, the lower bar 2, the side bar 3, and the sections 4; and 5 which together provide the opposite side of the frame, and an end portion of the wire provides the fixed intermediate bar 6 the extremity of which engages the side bar 3, thus providing a pair of loops 7 and 8 arranged in a common plane and divided by the intermediate bar 6, as illustrated by the Figure 1. The bar 6 is preferably formed by being bent out of the plane of the frame in one direction, then rebent to cross and extend out of the plane of the frame in the opposite direction, and lthus rebent and recrossed several times to provide the spaced single-peaked humps 9 all of which extend in one and the same directionout of the plane ofthe frame, and also to'provide the spaced single-peaked humps 10 all of which extend in a direction out of the plane of the frame opposite to that of the humps 9, the peaks of the humps 10 alternating with those of the humps 9 to terminate in parallel planes perpendicular to the planeof the frame, as illustrated by the Figure 2, and thus providing a slide buckle of reversible character in that the elevation of the buckle as illustrated by the Figure 1 is identical with the reversed elevation thereof not illustrated, the metal of eac'h of the wire extremities being united with engaging metal of the frame in permanent intimate union by some process such as welding as at 11 and 12.
In use the buckle, being reversible, is adapted to receive a strap (not illustrated) threaded therein in any desired manner so that the strap is passed over the humps 9 or 10 emerging from the face of the buckle plane opposite to that upon which the strap passes the upper and lower bars 1 and 2, respectively.
I claim z- 1. A slide buckle comprising a piece of wire, of uniform diameter, bent to form a substantially rectangular frame, an end portion of the wire providing an intermediate bar, and both wire extremities having connections with, and wholly within the plane of, the frame.
2. A slide buckle comprising a piece of wire of uniform diameter bent to form a substantially rectangular frame; an end portion of the wire providing an intermediate bar,
and both wire extremities having connections with, and wholly within the plane of, the frame, the intermediate bar being bent to provide angular projections extending out of the plane of the frame, the apex of each projection being intersected by its lineof altitude.
3. A reversible slide buckle comprising a E piece of Wire of uniform diameter bent to form a substantially rectangular frame, an f end portion of the Wire providing an intermediate bar, and both Wire extremities having connections With, and Wholly Within theA 1. plane of, the frame, said connections being provided by uniting the engaging metals in permanent intimate union;
