Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. HOFFMAN, 0F BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN FUR-CUTTING KNIVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,739, dated January 25, 1876; application filed December 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM F. HOFFMAN, 0f l?r. oklyn, Kings county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Fur-Cutting Device, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of a gang of knife blades, fixed at suitable distance apart in a frame, to which they are pivoted at the end of the shank, and between the pivots they are fixed adjustably on a clamp-screw, so that the blades can be readily adjusted to set the points all in the same plane from time to time, as they wear away irregularly.
The cutter is designed for cutting the fur into narrow strips for trimming and the like, which is now done with one blade only.
In this example the gang is represented as consisting of four blades; but more or less may be used, andthey may be arranged at any suitable distance apart, according to the required width of the trimming.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of my improved cutter, taken on the line a: m, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan view.
"in slots H, which allow the blades to be shifted up and down freely, to adjust the pivots so that they will cut alike.
I is a handle-piece, attached to the back piece D.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- A gang of blades, A, pivoted to the frame at B, in a slotted cross-piece, E, and clamped 'in the slotted cross-piece F by a rod passing through slot-h01es in the blarles,'substantial- 1y as specified.
Witnesses: WM. F. HOFFMAN.
