Description

Patented Aug. 13, 1929..
ruine JOSEPH NEISER, OF CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLIN.
Application filed February 11, 195353.
My invention relates to window sash fasteners and an object thereof is to provide a window sash fastener whereby the cooperating sashes of a window may be fastened in various adjusted positions.
Further the invention provides a sash fas tener embodying a. pair of sash engaging elements which are detachably and longitir dinally adj ustably connected together so that the sashes. may be readily raised or lowered or fastened in predetermined positions.
'With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind, the invention cons' ts in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a window having my invention associated therewith;
Figure 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the same vtaken on line 2-2 of Fig ure 1;
Figure 3 is a transverse section taken on line 3 3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4t is a perspective of the bracket embodied in the invention;
Figure 5 is a perspective of one of the elements embodied in the invention; and
Figure 6 is an elevation of the blank used in forming the bracket disclosed in Fig ure 4; v
Figure 7 is a modiiied embodiment of the invention.
Referring to the invention in detail an angle bracket having a vertically extend ing leg 6 and a horizontal attaching leg 7 to be secured upon the upper face of the lower sash of a window, is provided. The leg 7 is provided with a plurality of openings 8 for the reception of fastenings 9 which engage the sash.
At its upper end the leg 6 is formed with a pair of oppositely extending horizontally disposed lateral extensions 9 which are ree` versely bent against the upper end of the leg 6. At a pointintermediate their ends the extensions are bent at right angles and lie against each other to provide an arm 10, the latter being disposed forwardly of the leg G. Opposed transversely curved members 11 are formed on the free ends of the extensions 9 and define a vertically extending channel shaped member.
A threaded rod 12 adjustable longitudinal- Serial No. 253,667.
ly and removable from the channel shaped member provided for engaging the upper sash of the window. A right angular' ei;- t-ension 13 is formed on the upper end of the rod and terminates in an upwardly curved hook element lil which is cngageable in a recess 15 in the adjacent face of the upper sash. plate 1G, having an opening 17 in registration with the recess 15, overlies the latter and is secured to the sash by removable fastenings 18.
For the purpose of holding the threaded rod .in predetermined longitudinal adjusted jjiositions within the channel shaped member and thereby fasten the window sash predetermined positions, frusto conical nuts 1S) are threadedly received on the rod 12 upon opposite sides of the channel shaped member and are adapted to be threaded against the ends of the latter.
As particularly illustrated in `Figure 2, the opposite ends of the socket are bevelled7 as at 20, in opposite directions, while the adjacent face of the adjacent nuts are provided with bevelled recesses 22 for the reception of these bevelled ends 21.
ln use the extension 13 on the rod 12 is inserted through the opening 18 in the plate 1G to engage the hook with the upper wall of the recess 15 and the rod then swung downwardly to lie within the channel shaped member. After the sashes are arranged in closed or partly open position, the nuts 19 are threaded against the channel shaped member to hold the threaded rod against vertical displacement.
In Figure 6l I have disclosed a modification of the invention. In this instance the bracket 5 is cast with an upstanding right angularly disposed arm 7 at its upper end terminating in a vertically eXtendinOl semi circular or channel shaped member 8 for the reception of the threaded rod 12.
that is claimed is 1. ln a fastener for two relatively movable slidable members, a channel shaped member to be iXed to one of such members, a rod longitudinally adjustable in the channel shaped member and engageable with the other member, and elements carried by the rod upon opposite sides of the channel shaped member and engageable with the ends thereof to retain the rod against longitudinal shifting.
2. In combination a pair of vertically CFL movable sashes, a channel shaped member' iXed to one sash, a rod vertically adjustable in the member and having one end engaging the other sash, and coacting elements on the rod and engageable with the ends of the socket to lock the rod against vertical displacement.
8..In a device of the character described, a bracket for attachment to a Window sash, a rod .receiving member carried thereby, -a threaded rod longitudinally adjustable in the member and having one end engageable With a :second sash, and opposed nuts threaded upon the rod and engageable with the member to lock the rod against vertical' movement.
ll. A fastener comprising a bracket, a channel shaped member carried thereby and disposed at right angles thereto, a threaded rod longitudinally adjustable in the channel shaped member and having aV hook clement upon one end thereoi:` and engageable lWith a member to be yfastened, and opposed nuts upon the rod and engageable with the ends of the channel `shaped member to lock the rod against longitudinal movement.
5. In a device of thecharacter described, a bracket formed With lateral extensions at one end Which are bent against the upper end of the bracket and thence'bent at right angles to lie against each other and terminate in transversely curved members Which together define a channel shaped member, a longitudinal element adjustable in the channel shaped member and engageable with a movable member, and means cooperating With the longitudinal element and channel shaped member to hold the longitudinal element against longitudinal movement.
6. In a device of the character described, a bracket, a channel shaped member carried thereby and having its ends tapered in opposite directions, a threaded rod longitudinally adjustable in the channel shaped member and having means tor attachment to an object to be fastened, nuts threaded upon the rod and opposed to the ends of the channel shaped member and having recesses in their inner faces to receive the tapered ends of the channel ,shaped member.
7. In a fastener, a channel shaped member for attachment to a movable body, a threaded rod longitudinallyadjustable in the channel shaped member having one end engageable with a second body, and opposed nuts arr-anged upon thc rod and engageable with the ends of the channel shaped member to lock the rod against longitudinal movement.
Signed at Charlotte, in the county ot Mecklenburg and State of North Carolina, this 80th day of January A. D., 1928.
