SHADE HOLDER.

Application filed December 29, 1926. Serial No. 157,722.

This invention relates to improvements in shade or globe holders for electric light fixtures.

The object of the present invention is the provision of an improved holder of this character having a plurality of supporting fingers adapted for engagement within the neck portion of the shade or globe and which lingers are longitudinally adjustable to enable shades or globes having neck portions of varying shape to be firmly supported; which holder includes a longitudinally adjustable ring member for covering the neck portion of the shade or globe; and which holder is exceedingly simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in use.

Further objects of the invention are in part obvious and in part will appear more in detail hereinafter.

In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the present improved holder having a shade or globe supported thereby; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the holder; and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view on the line 3-3, Fig. 2.

The shade holder illustrated in the drawings comprises a canopy or bell-shaped mem her 1 adapted to receive the lamp socket (not shown) and a cover ring member, said members being made of brass or other suitable material. The bell-shaped member 1 is provided at its bottom or lower end with a cylindrical portion 3 to which are suitably secured the shade supporting fingers.

In the present embodiment of the invention, three fingers are provided, one finger 5 being considerably wider than each of the other two fingers 6. Said fingers are secured to the inner surface of the cylindrical portion 3 of member 1, with the wider finger 5 in opposed relation to the other two fingers which are arranged closer to each other than to said wider finger. This spacing enables the fingers to be readily inserted within the neck portion 7 of the shade or globe 8 by simply tilting either the holder or the globe, the wider finger being preferably inserted first.-

In order to enable shades or globes having neck portions of varying shapes to be firmly supported, the fingers 5, 6 are long1tudinally adjustable. Longitudinal slots 10 for the securing screws 11 may be provided either in said fingers or in the cylindrical portion 3 of member 1, the former arrangement being shown. In order that the fingers will firmly engage the neck portion of the shade, the lower end portions of said fingers are bent outwardly, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1.

The cover ring member is preferably in one piece and comprises a cylindrical side portion 15 terminating at its lower end in an annular bead 16 and provided at its upper end with an inwardly extending, annular flange 17 terminating in a depending cylindrical flange 18. Said ring member is adapted to surround the cylindrical portion 3 ofmember 1 with the depending flange 18 thereof in engagement with said cylindrical portion.

Downward movement of the ring member on said cylindrical portion is limited either by the heads of screws 11 or by the shade or globe, or by both. Therefore, longitudinal adjustment of the shade supporting lingers will be followed by corresponding and automatic longitudinal adjustment of said cover I ring member, so that the neck portion 7 of the shade or globe and the lower end of the cylindrical portion 3 of the bell-shaped member 1 will at all times be properly covered by said ring member.

What we claim is:

A shade or globe holder, comprising a onepiece housing hanger member having a depending cylindrical bottom portion, opposed one-piece fingers having their upper end portions arranged within and secured to said bottom portion by pin and slot connections so that said fingers may be adjusted longitudinally of said bottom portion, said fingers having their lower end portions bent outwardly and downwardly for supporting engagement with the inner surface of a shade or globe neck, and a one-piece ring member having a horizontally disposed annular top portion and a depending cylindrical skirt portion, said top portion having a central opening to snugly receive said hanger member bottom portion and providing with said ring member skirt portion a means for concealing the shade or globe neck and said pin and slot connections, downward movement of said ring member longitudinally of said hanger member bottom portion being limited by engagement of said ring member top 5 portion With the shade or globe neck or with the pins of said pin and slotconnections or by engagement of said ring member skirt portion with the body of the shade or globe, depending upon the size and configuration of the shade. 10 In testimony whereof We hereby allix our signatures.
