A further object is to provide a hand bag that is nea-t in appearance, stylish, durable in use and not expensive to manufacture.
W'ith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of this application for patent and in which- Fig. 1 is a view of the hand bag in front elevation illustrating its application.
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the bag, at the wrist, the wrist band and fastening means therefor being open.
Fig. 3 is a view of the hand bag in front elevation and in open position.
Fig. 4 is a cross sectional yiew taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a cross section, enlarged, on line 6 6 of Fig. 5.
Like reference characters denotes correspondin g parts throughout the several views.
Many hand bags, purses and the like, are stolen by purse snatchers7 in broad daylight while being worn by the owners. This F is not difficult, due to the fact that usually the bags or purses are insecurely held in the hand, sometimes in open position and they provide a tempting opportunity to petty criminals who, unfortunately, abound in many of the larger cities and elsewhere. It is the purpose ofthe present invention to make this type of thievery practically impossible.
The present hand bag is provided with a r pocket flap that can be readily fastened shut with eflicicnt fasteners, with a guard band of stout wire that extends all about the bag. periphery and effectually prevents cutting of the bag from its supports, and lwith finger stalls or loops formed from the guard band wire, the bag being worn on the back of the hand and wrist, always instantly accessible to the owner but very difiicult of access to others.
The bag comprises the body portion 1 of leather or like material, formed along its lateral edges with the folds 2, the interior of the body portion being accessible through the mouth 3, the interior of the body portion forming a pocket of considerable size for the reception of monies, articles of merchandise, toilet articles, etc, etc. An auxiliary pocket 4 for tickets, etc. is secured to the body portion and comprises the mouth 5. A flap 6 secured to the body portion above its mouth 3, serves in closed position, as a common closure for the mouths 3 and 5, glove fasteners or the like 7 serving to retain the flap positively in closed position when desired.
A strap 8 of rubber, or the like, is provided to encircle the pocket 4 and body portion 1 underneath the flap 6 as a precautionary guard. The body portion is provided, further, with the wrist band 9 provided with buckle 1() and with an auxiliary rubber strap 11 which serves yieldinglyto retain a handerchief 12. A stout strand of wire 13 extends marginally all around the body portion .and at certain points it is extended beyond the body portion to form loops or finger stalls 14 and a thumb loop 15 'for the lingers and thumb of one hand of the owner. By inserting the fingers and thumb in the said loops, as shown in Fig. 1, the bag is securely attached to the hand and theft of the bag by any means is practically impossible. A wrist watch 16 may be carried by the wrist band in the-usual manner.
WVhat is claimed is l. In a hand bag, a body portion comprising pockets, a common flap for said pockets, support straps for said body, a guard band i'or said body portion, and finger loops inte gral with said guard band and extending outwardly from said body portion.
2. In a hand bag, a body portion, support straps therefor, pockets in said body portion, a common flap for said pockets, an auxiliary strap encircling said body portion and pockets beneath said flap, a guard band extending marginally about said body portion, and finger stalls and a thumb stall integral with said guard band and extending outwardly from said body.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature.
