No-.171,75Z. hunted Jan. 4, 187er.
UNITED STATES. PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS T. WITTE, OF BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO KING, BRIGGS & OO., OF
NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT `|N CORK-SCREWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 171,752, dated January 4, 1876; application filed November 6, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANCIS T. WITTE, of Brooklyn7 Kings county, New York, have in vent-ed certain Improvements relating to Key- Ring Cork-Screws, of which the following is a specification The combinations of an efficient cork-screw adapted to be attached to a key-ring, and thus carriedon the person without danger of loss, has never been before known. My invention is intended to supply this Want.
The accompanying drawings form a part of this specification- Figure 1 represents the device in condition for the pocket, partly in section; Fig. 2, the view turned a quarter around, in condition for use.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts `in both the igures.
Referring to the drawings, the ordinary helical partA, shown in dotted lines, is surmounted by aline-threaded screw, a, and this part by a large eye, B2, and a smaller eye, B1. The small eye receives the key-ringO, by which the device may not only be guarded against loss when carried in the pocket, but may also `be screwed into a cork when required. D is a case adapted to loosely inclose the helical part A, and also to match in the largeeye B2. When required for use, the case D, which matches on the screw a, is removed, and is iuserted in the eye B1. The holding of the device to the key-ring is done by the eye B1. The holding of the case to allow the device to be set in a cork, and to allow a strong pull on the whole to remove the cork, is performed by the eye B2.
I claim as my invention- 1. The keyringcork-screw herein described, having the two eyes B1 B2, adapted to receive the case D in two positions, and the key-ring C, as herein speeiiied.
2. The combination of the cork-screw A a B1 B2 and the case D, the latter constructed and adapted to operate in the aperture B2, as specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand n the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANCIS T. WITTE.
