IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [79,356, dated June 27, 1876; application filed April 3, 1876. I
. improved table for parlors, hotels, and other uses, that may be employed for playing and other purposes, its top being capable of being changed from one side to the other by a simple mechanism.
The invention consists in providing the circumferential frame of a table with a swinging end locking-leaf and ajoint-covering molding, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, A represents a table-frame, of any suitable style or finish, whose top part ,is provided with a swinging leaf or section, B,
that turns, by central'pivots a, inbearingsb of the surrounding frame part. The swinging section B may be locked at the sides to the frame A by sliding or spring catches d, as
shown in Fig. 1; The swinging section may be finished at one side.with inlaid work, cloth, or otherwise, in the style of a parlor-table, and at the other side made smooth, or with a checker-board, or in other manner, so that the same table may be used for playing as well as parlor purposes.
For the purpose of covering the joint of top section and frame, a molded frame, O, that is hinged to the table, or otherwise applied thereto, is placed around the edge of the table, and so as to impart the required finish to the table.
A parlor or other table may thus, by a simple mechanism, be made available for different purposes, and thereby the usefulness of such tables considerably increased.
Having thus described my invention, What l I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters jatent, is-
The combination of the surrounding frame of a table with a swinging and locking top section or leaf and a joint-coveringmolding, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
