Description

14, 1930 E. L. KlNcH 1,778,031
MARKI'NG TAG Filed Sept 14. 1929 @mi 5. LA
I NVENTOR www L ATTO NEY Patented Oct. 14, 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE EARL L. KINCI-I, OFWATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR T WATERBURY BUCKLE COMPANY, OF WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION OF CONNECTICUT MARKING TAG `App1cation filed September 14, 1929.
and delicate fabrics as the pins, in piercing the fabric, cut the threads and impair the value of the goods. Also certain classes of merchandise cannot be punctured withoutdestroying their appearance and value. Y
y I have produced a marking tag which can be slipped over the edge of the merchandise quickly and easily and it is my object to produce a tag in which the metal clip will be solidly and firmly secured to the tag proper and which is capable of production in cornmercial quantities at a low ycost and with a medium of labor and material.
In the drawing Fig. l is a perspective view of my improved tag; Fig. 2 a back view of the structure of Fig. l; Fig. 3 a sectional view of the structure of Fig. 2 on the line 3-8 thereof; and Fig. 4 a front viewl of the structure of Fig. 2.
The tag or ticketV proper l is made of any desired material such as cardboard or Bristol board,'ofany size, shape or color, and may haveany desired matter printed thereon.
The metal clip 2 is primarily a U-shaped piece of wire having the bottom of the U outfiared at 3. The free ends of the U-shaped clip are pushed through the tag l near an edge thereof and the ends bent up at 4-4. The clip is next bent outwardly at 5 5 so that the tag l is firmly clinched between the parts l-4 and 5-5. The U-shaped clip is neXt bent downwardly at 6 6 over the back ofthe tag l, but with a slight space 7 between the wire and the tag at the edge of the latter and with the base o-f the flared portion 3 resting firmly against the back of the tag 1 as best shown in Fig. 3.
`In use the outflared portion of the clip is slipped over the edge of the goods to be marked and the latter are firmly gripped between the wire clip and the ticket. By the use of my device no holes are made in the goods and the tags may be used to mark impenetrable objects such as sheet metal ware.
I claim In a marking tag, a ticket proper and a substantially U-shaped clip having its free ends v passing through the ticket from front to back Serial No. 392,574.
near an edge thereof, the free ends bent upwardly on the back of the ticket and the U- shaped portionbent upwardly on the face of the ticket whereby the clip is clinched to the ticket, and the U-shaped portion then bent downwardly over` the edge of the ticket but spaced therefrom adjacent said edge into contact with the back thereof7 the bottom of the U-shaped clip being flared outwardly from the body of the ticket.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name.
f EARL L. KINCH.
