UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK E. BRUMMIT, OF WALPOLE, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENTIN METHODS OF UTILIZING THE LEATHER OF OLD CARD-CLOTHING.
Specification forinin g part of Letters Patent No, 177,466, dated May 16, 1876; application filed January 22, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK ELLINGWORTH BRUMMIT, ot' Walpole, in the county of Norfolkand State of Massach usetts,-have invented a new and useful Improvement in the Method of Utilizing the Leather of Old (lard-Clothing, of which the following is a specification:
My invention consists of amethod of utilizing the leather of old and worn-out card-clothin g for new clothing, and thus effecting a large saving of material, now wholly wasted,
I take the old card-clothing as it now comes from the mills and is thrown away, remove the teeth, a-nd gum the leather with gum-tragacanth, and then reset the leather with new teeth, pricking the holes in the opposite way to the first setting, so that they will not go n the same holes which they would be liable 0 do it set in the same direction. The gum fills the old holes, and in some measure restores the leather to the. original condition for receiving and holding the teeth.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the back of a piece of old card-clothing partly set with new teeth, and Fig. 2- is a side elevation.
Similar letters of reference indicate corrcsponding parts.
A represents the leather, and B the teeth, which are the same as ordinary clothing, except the leather has the holes previously pricked, and now filled up with gum-traga canth, as I propose for preparing it for the new teeth. The holes are pricked crosswise of the old holes, so that the teeth cannot be set in the old holes.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The method of utilizing the leather of old ,v card-clothing by treating it with gum-tragacanth, and resetting it with teeth reversely to the original teeth, substantially as specified.
