The present invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and more specifically to an improved collar of the turn down type.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a novel type of soft or semi-soft collars embodying a fold flap which may be readily swung to each side of the neck band of the collar for permitting of either side of the fold flap being disposed outermost and exposed to view should one side of the fold flap become soiled.

A further object of the invention is to provide an improved reversible collar embody- 1 ing features of construction whereby when the various sections forming the collar are secured together, no undesirable bulges will be formed which may be unsightly or cause discomfort to the wearer of the collar.

A still further object of the invention is to provide an improved reversible collar which is neat in appearance, which may be economically manufactured, and which will present a like appearance when worn in either of its 95 reverse positions.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following detail description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing formdrawing:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a collar constructed in accordance with my invention.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the collar and showing certain portions in dis-assembled relation for illustrating the novel construction of the collar.

Figure 3 is a view illustrating the fold flap of the collar in blank form, and the neck band of the collar in a position for receiving the fold flap.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary view of one end of the improved collar and showing portions broken away to illustrate-details of construc- 4 tion.

Figure 5 is an enlarged transverse section on line 55 of Figure 4.

Referring to the drawing in detail, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the seving a part of this specification and in which eral views, the letter A designates the, improved collar, embodying a neck band B and a reversible fold flap C.

The neck band B which may be made of any suitablysoft material, embodies a pair of symmetrically formed portions 10 and 11. Each of the neck band portions 10 and 11 is provided at its marginal edges with inwardly turned folds 12' As clearly illustrated in Figure 2, the folds extending along the top marginal edges of the neck band portions are of considerable width and are reduced in width at the tab portions 1550f the band as at l l. By so reducing the folds 14 at the tab portions of the band, a neater appearance will be formed by the tabs when connected in overlying relation to the neck band of a shirt. In securing the band sections 10 and 11 together, the same are first stitched along their lower edges and thetabportions 13 by a line of stitching 16 and then turned inside out for forming the folds 12 and 14. When in this position,'an;d as illustrated in Figure 3, the upwardly projecting edges 17 may be turned inwardly of the band portions for providing the folds 12'at the top marginal edge of the band. By so having the folds 12 of con,- siderable width along the top marginal edges of the band portions, it will be seenthat when the folds are turned inwardly of the band portions as in Figure 5, a stifiening' band will be formed along the upper edge of the neck band having sufiicient depth to insure proper folding of the flap C to either side of the neck b and along the upper edge of the stiffening band without likelihood of the folds tending to roll outwardly. The rows of stitching 18 may then be run around the ower edge of the band and the tab portions as illustrated in Figure 3, but it is desirable that this stitching be omitted until associating ofthe fold flap with the neck band, and in which case the stitchings 18 for forming the seams at the marginal edges of the neck band will also serve for securing the fold flap to the neck band when'continued along the upper mar.- ginal portion of the band.

Suitable button holes 19 may be provided adjacent each end of the neck band for securing the ends of the collar to the front of the shirt band, and a button hole may be provided midwayof the band for attachment to the rear portion of the shirt band asisvthe .usual method of attaching a collar to a shirt band. v r

From the foregoing description it will be apparent that a novel type of reversible collar has beenprovided, embodying features of construction-whereby no undesirable thicksections connected to provide a pocked extending along the top edge of the neck band,
