the compartments and said compartments being easily adjusted by moving the partitions from one point to another as needed according to the number of papers they contain; third, to provide an extension on the upper part'of each partition with an alphabetical letter printed on said extension as an index; fourth, to provide front and top covers, which are foldedon the back of the cabinet when opened thus giving convenient access to the filing cabinet; fifth, to provide a drawer for small articles such as pencils, stamps, etc. said drawer being provided'with a lock on the front inner side to lock the cabinet and the drawer at the same time; and sixth, to provide a-filing cabinet ofthe character referred to that is simple construction, inexpensive, strong, durable and especially adapted for the purpose for which it is designed. Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawmgs, 1 designates the vertical wall and 2','the. horizontal wall of the slotted supl I port; said walls having a square angle at the lineoffold3. 1 Along the top edge of wall lat 4, there'is a series of slots about one hundred in number, said slots being of uniform-' size and shape and opening at the top edge. l v
In the intermediate portion of the horizontal wall at 5 there is a series or row of slots from front to back. The slots in'the two above-mentioned walls are equally spaced and correspond in line with each other.
The slotted supportFigl is firmly secured to the'inner sides of the three stationary walls as seen'in Fig. 3. 7 is the back wall, 6,6 are the side walls, 13 is the drawer, 14 is the knob on the drawer,-8, the hinge for the cover at the upper edgeof the back wall, 9 the hinge between the top and front cover members, 10, the top cover and 11, the front cover.- The front cover is shown as being folded'over the top cover and both hang on the back when the cabinet is open.
The vertical wall 1 which is placed adjacent to the back wall 7 has its top-edge con siderably below the hinge 8, andthe horizontaliwall 2 forms the floor of the filing cabinet.
The knob 14 on the drawer has a keyhole at its center leading to a lock which is-secured back ofthe knob. 15 is a cross-section of a molding in which groove 16 is-pr ovided for the drawer to slide. l 1
The moldings 15 are firmly secured by a suitable means, one toeach end of the wall 2 on its underneath side and to the inner side of the side walls6, 6 as shown by the dotted.

, The moldings 15 support the wall 2, keep the walls 6, 6 in a firm position and permit the drawer to slide inthe groove 16.
Dotted line 23 shows the end of the wall 2secured firmly against one of the side walls 6,. 6. 17 is the indexed partition which has rear and bottom extensions at 18 and 19'; said extensions 18 and 19 are all uniform and cor} respond in dimension and location to the Slots and so that when theextension18 is placed or inserted in the slot at 4; then the extension 19 enters-the proper slot at 5.
