Description

March 22-, 1927. w J- BARNETT PULLING TOOL Filed May 1 1926 M a/Zc)" J fiarnett INVEINTOR W ATTQRNEY Patented Mar. 22, 1927.
UNITED STATES WALTER J. BARNETT, OF CASPER, WYOMING.
PULLING TOOL.
Application filed May 19, 1926. Serial No. 110,292.
This invention relates to a puller device, the general object of the invention being to provide simple means for removing hands from watches, clocks and the like and for removing parts of mechanisms from other parts.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation, with parts in section, of the improved tool.
Figure 2 is a front View, with parts in section.
In these views, 1 indicates a handle part which is formed with a cylinder 2 extending at right angles from the endof the handle part. Ears 3 are formed on the extremity of the handle part to one side of the cylinder and a second handle part 4 is pivoted between said ears. A plunger 5 is mounted in the cylinder and has its rounded head 6 engaged by a fiat part 4: of the handle 4. Its pointed end 7 passes through a hole in the lower end of the cylinder and a coiled spring 8 in the cylinder and surrounding the plunger, acts to hold the plunger in raised position.
The lower end of the cylinder is threaded to receive a threaded ring 9 to which is connected a pair of substantially L-shaped arms 10. The arms are oppositely arranged, with their horizontal portions extending toward each other with a space between them.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that by placing the horizontal portions of the arms 10 in engagement with a pinion, clock hand or other object to be removed from a shaft or the like, and pressing upon the handle 4 to lower the plunger 5 until its point engages the shaft or other part to which the pinion, hand or the like is connected, the pressure exerted will separate the parts. By making the ring 9 removable, rings with various sizes of arms can be used with the device so that the one device can be used for various purposes.
This device is easily operated with one hand and objects can be quickly removed from their supporting means and as soon as the object is released from the supporting means, it will drop from the tool.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
WVhat I claim is 1. A tool of the class described comprising a pair of handles hingedly connected together, a cylinder connected with the lower handle and depending downwardly, a plunger carried by the cylinder and having its head projecting above the handle so that it will be engaged by the other handle, a spring for holding the plunger in raised position and a pair of supporting members at the lower end of the cylinder spaced apart to permit the plunger to pass by them.
2. A tool of the class described comprising a pair of handles pivotally connected together, a cylinder connected with one handle, a spring plunger in the cylinder having its head engaged by the other handle, said cylinder having an opening in its lower end through which the plunger passes, a ring member detachably connected with the lower end of the cylinder and a pair of L-shaped arms connected with the ring member with their horizontal port-ions extending toward each other but spaced apart to permit the end of the plunger to pass by them.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
IVALTER J. BARNETT.
