MATCH-BOX CONTAINER.
Application filed January 30, 1926. Serial No. 84,941.
This invention relates to a match box holder. It more particularly relates to a match box holder adapted to be secured to a wall or other supporting place and having a receptacle for receiving a large box of matches and a second receptacle for receiving burnt matches, together with an abrasive means associated therewith, against which the matches may be struck.
An object of the invention is to provide a match box holder stamped from flat blanks of material and wherein a receptacle is provided for a box of matches and a second receptacle is provided for the burnt matches.
Another object is to provide a match box holder having a receptacle for burnt matches which is readily detached from the device as a whole.
Another object is to provide means for removably' holding an abrasive material, without the employment ofaddditional parts. Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
An embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, of which:
Figure 1 is match holder;
Figure 2 is a front perspective of the match holder with the receptacle for the burnt matches detached therefrom;
Figure 3 is a. rear perspective of the match holder;
Figure a is a rear perspective of the match holder container proper, before being attached to the balance of the device; and
Figure 5 is a detailed view of the receptacle for the burnt matches, showing one of the sides thereof before the same is connected to the front edge.
The device comprises in general, wall attaching member 1, a match container 2 and a burnt match receptacle 3. The wall attaching member 1 is a flat blank having a flange turned outwardly therefrom along its bottom edge. Converging slits 5 and 6 are formed at the middle portion of the flange and the lower edge of the blank. The material lying between these slits is bent upwardly in parallel relation to the blank, along the line that the flange 4 is bent to provide a tab member 7. The blank is also provided with converging vertical slits 8 and 9 at a point somewhat above the upper edge of the tab 7. The upper ends of the slits 8 and 9 are connected by horizontal slit 10.
a front perspective of the The material lying between the three slits above named, is bent outwardly so as to lie in angular relation with respect to the blank and to form a tab member 11 at a point above the middle of said blank. A slit 12 is'formed so as to extend substantially parallel to the slit 10. Above the slit 12 and adjacent each edge of the blank are vertical slits 13 and 1 1. The blank is provided with openings 15 and 16, through which the fastening means may be passed. The match holder 2 is formed from a substantially T- shaped blank. The cross piece of this blank comprises the portions 17 and 18 and 19, while the stem is represented by the portion 20. The portion 20 is bent upwardly along the line 21, so as to lie substantially at right angles to the part 17. The portions 18 and 19 have flanges 22 and 23 bent along a line that is substantially an extension of the line 21. The portions 18 and 19 are also bent at right angles to the portion 17 so that the flanges 22 and 23 will underlie the portion 20. The free edge of the portion 20 is provided with a tab member 24 and the free edges of the portions 18 and 19 are provided with tab members 25 and 26.
It will be readily apparent that the match container can be attached to the member 1 by inserting the tabs 24, 25 and 26 thereof through the slits 12, 13 and 1e respectively,
and then clinching the said tabs against the back of the member 1. This arrangement provides a rigid container for the matches and at the same time enables said container to be constructed quickly and inexpensively. The container is ordinarily formed of such dimensions that a large box of matches may be placed bodily therein. Burnt match receptacle 3 is formed from a substantially T-shaped blank. The cross portion of the T-shaped blank forms portions 27, 28 and 29 respectively of the receptacle, while the stem is formed from the portions 30 and 81. The portion 28 is provided with horizontal openings 32 and 33, the last named opening lying along the line separating the portion 28 from the portion 30, while the first named opening is adjacent the upper edge of the portion 28. Centrally located, in the portions 27 and 29 and along the outer edges thereof, are openings 34: and 35. The portion 31 is bent upwardly at right angles to the portion 30 along the line 36, While the portion 28 is bent upwardly along the line 37 so as to lie parallel to the portion 31. The portions 27 and 29 are bent forwardly at right angles to the portion 28 along a line that is a continuation of the edge 01' the member 30. The outer edges of both portions 27 and 29 are bent at right angles thereto along the line passing through the openings and 35. J'Yhe bottom. edges 01f both portions 2? and 29 are bent so as to term flanges for engaging under the part 30. Tabs 38 and 39 arranged 6n the portion 31 are adapted to pass hrough the openings at and. andto then be clinched downwardly against the sides 2? .nd When the blank has been so formed and bent, a box-like receptacle will be formed. This receptacle is quickly attached and detached to and from the Wall 1 by simply passing the tabs 11 and 7 through the openings and 33 'espectively. It should be noted that when the receptacle 8 is so attached to the member 1, that the bottom of said receptacle along the rear edge thereof, will rest upon and engage against the "lange 4-,. this arrangement will efi'ect a secure attachment of the receptacle to the wall member and will at the same time novide for ready det' chment thereof. The flanges 40 and ll extend around in front of the portion 31 but are slightly spaced therefrom. The consequence of this construction is that a simple means is provided whereby a piece oi abrasive'material 42 may be reniovably inserted between the portion 31 and flanges 40 and ll. It should be obrved that this provision tor the attachment 01" an abrasive material does not necessitate the employment 01" additional elements, thereby reducing the cost of construction. Having thus described my invention, the following claims are appended hereto, it being expressly understood, however, that the invention is susceptible of various modifications and adaptations, within the scope oi the same.
What I claim is: V V g 1. A match container comprisiiimom-" bination a supporting member, a receptzfcie n :for receiving ninburnt matches, a receptacle for receiving burnt matches, abrasive means for lighting the matches, inter-locking means between the receptacle members and the supporting member, consisting of tab elements extending integrally from the supporting member and slots in the receptacle n'iembers, additional means for reinforcing and holding the burntmatch receptacle in interlocked relationship with the supporting member, consisting of an inwardly extending portion of the lower edge of the supporting member adapted to receive an edge of the burnt match receptacle. 1 e0 2. A match container comprising in combination a supporting member, a receptacle for receiving unburnt matches, 'a receptacle for receiving burnt matches, abrasive means for lighting the matches, inter-locking means 55 between the receptacle members and the supporting member, consisting of tab elements extending integrally from the supporting member and slots in the receptacle members, additional means for reinforcing and holding the burnt match receptacle in interlocked relationship with the supporting member, consisting of an inwardly extending portion of the lower edge of the supporting member adapted to receive an edge 01 the burnt match receptacle, an auxiliary inter-locking tab member extending inward- 1y from the lower edge of the supporting member and adapted to cooperate in interlocked relationship with an opening along the lower inside edge of the burnt match re ceptacle, thereby assuring a firm inter-lock-- ing relationship between the burnt match receptacle and the supporting member.
In testimony whereof I aliix my signature.
