COMBINATION TOOL.
Application filed August 3, 1927. Serial No. 210,268.
This invention relates to a combination sharpening tool, can puncher, and bottlecap ejector, especially adapted for household use; and it is an object of this invention to provide a device which is highly useful and simple in construction, and convenient of arrangement, lightness and comparative inexpense of manufacture, being further desiderata, which have been borne in mind in the production and development of my invention. With these and many other objects in view, which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combinations, and arrangement of parts which will hereinafter be more fully described, illustrated, and claimed.
The essential features of the invention involved in the carrying out of the objects indicated are susceptible to modification; but a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of the device;
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the device;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the sharpening disk used in connection with my invention;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the holding plate detached; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a detachable punch employed in constructing my invention.
Referring to the above-mentioned drawings forming a part of this specification, the various figures described above adequately illustrate my invention and the following detailed description is commensurate with the above-mentioned drawings in enabling an artisan to construct and assemble the constituent parts of the same.
Referring to the above-mentioned drawing my improved device comprises a U- shaped wire member 10 having parallel arms 11 and 12. The base of the U is enlarged as at 13 to form a bottle-cap removing de vice. Integral lugs 14: are struck up on the wire on the inside thereof to provide engag- The extremities 15 of the U- shaped wire are bent to upstand and diverge slightly. A holding plate 16 is clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 5, which plate is provided with side wings 17 which are bent inwardly to extend around the upstanding wire portions 15, and to hold a sharpening plate 19 in position. This holding plate is substantially polygonal in shape, and the opposed sides of the same are provided with cutout portions 18. The sharpening disk is adapted to overlie this plate. This sharpening disk is shown at 19 in Fig. 4-. As clearlymay be seen from Fig. 1 this sharpening plate is frictionally held between the wings 17. The plate 16 is provided with a substantially triangular-shaped aperture through the center thereof, which aperture is designated at 20, and is out through a depression 20 in the center of the plate. A punch member 21 shown in detail in Fig. 6 is receivable in this aperture and has lateral flanges 22 and 23 which occupy a position between the sharpening plate and the holding plate. The punch member 21 extends thru the aperture 20 and below the depression 20, and is used for punching holes in milk-cans or the like. The cutout portions 18 extend slightly below the upper edge of the sharpening plate 19 and the sides of these cutout portions 18 form guides for the blades of scissors or other instruments, the edges of which have only very slight bevels. The projecting ends 15 of the U- shaped wire serve as guides when a blade is introduced between the same and the sharpening plates.
It is obvious then that I have provided a device which is eflicient in its operation and simple in the construction. I do not desire to limit myself to the exact details shown in the accompanying drawing and de scribed in the specification, but only as pointed out in the appended claims.
Claims:
v 1. A combination tool comprising a resilient member having substantially parallel arms, a holding plate attached to said arms,
through said depression, a punch member having lateral wings disposed in said aperture, said Wings resting 111 said central de pression, a sharpening disk overlying said holding plate and being fractionally held Within the same, said holding plate having lateral Wings extending around said substam tially parallel arms to hold the same i bridged relationship thereacross. I 3. A combination tool comprising a U- shaped member bent to provide substantially parallel arms, an enlarged loop at the point of bend of said U-shaped member, lugs on said U-shaped member Within said loop, a holding plate having lateral Wings extending around said parallel arms, there being a depression centrally of said holding plate, said plate having an aperture extending through saiddepression, apunch member having lateral Wings extending through said aperture, said Wings resting in said depression, and a plate overlying said holding plate and being frietionally held thereon.
4. A combination tool. comprising ,a resilient il-shaped member bent to provide substantially parallel arms, said member providing a loop at the point of bend, there being lugs on said member Within the limits of said loop providing a bottle opener, a holding plate having Wings extendingaround said substantially parallel arms, guides on saidholdingplate, said holding plate having a central depression therein and .having an aperture extending through said holdin plate in saiddepression, a punch. extending through said aperture, said punch having lateral Wings resting in said depression, and a isharpening. plate overlying said holding plate and frictionally held there-against. 5; A device as claimed in claim 4 and in addition, the ends of said substantially parallel arms providing guides for guiding instruments against said sharpening plate.
6. A device of the character described coinresting in said depression, a sharpeningplate overlying said holding plate, said sharpening plate being frictionally held between said substantially parallel arms and Wings on said holding plate, there being guides in said holding plate, extending slightly below the edge of said sharpening plate.
7. r ,deviceas claimed in claim 6 and in addition, the ends of Said substantially parallel arms providing guides for guiding instruments against said, sharpening plate.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
