Description
March 27, 1928. v 1,663,975
T. H. DAVID WHEELED MASSAGING DEVICE Filed May 10. 1926 INVENTOR.
ATTONEY.
Patented Mar. 27, 1928.
f UNITED STATES; PATENT re ouse. DAVID, or SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
WHEELED mssm e nEvren Application filed May 10, 1926. Serial N0. 108,128.
coming slightly disarranged, that is, one of.
the sections of the vertebra will get out of alignment due to some mishap to the spinal column, with the result that the patient suffers various nervous disorders and diseases and in order to correct these conditions and to put the vertebra sections back into alignment, massage is necessary. Adjustment of the spinal column, is also necessary in this treatment but this invention is directed par ticularly to an apparatus or device for massage purposes and a particular object of the invention is to provide a massaging device which can be adjusted in width to suit the various spinal columns to which it may be applied so that the proper portion of the spinal column may be massaged with beneficial results.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to fully comprehend the underlying features of my invention that they may embody the same in the various modifications in structure and relation contemplated, a
drawing depicting a preferred form has been annexed as a part of this disclosure and in such drawing, similar reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout all the views, of which,
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a massaging device.
Figure 2 is a View in end elevation of the massaging device illustrated in Figure 1.
Figure 8 is a view in side elevation of a modified form of massaging device having an adjustable feature connected therewith, the device being formed from a singlepiece body portion.
massaging device shown in Figure 3.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 1ndicates the massaging device whlch com- Figure 4: is a View in end elevation of the prises the handle 6 carrying at the ends thereof the frame pieces 7 which are held together as by the rivet 8 and are'formed in their lower portionto provide the spaced legs 9, these legs being connected with the slde strap 10 and being joined at their centers by the adjusting screw 11. The lower ends of the legs 9 are adapted to receive the wheels 12 which may be of any suitable soft I material, such, for instance, as rubber or maybe made with a suitable solid center provided w th the rubber tires 13. The
wheels are held in position on the leg members 9 through the medium of suitable bolts or rivets 14 which form an axle wheels 12. e
It is evident that the lower portions of the legs 9 are in yieldable relation to each other and are maintained at fixed distances apart by the adjusting screw 11. When massage of the spinal column is necessary, the massaging implement is rolled up and down the back so that the wheels are on either side of the center of the spinal col- "umn and through the medium of the adjusting screw 11, the distance apart of the wheels can be adjusted to fit the particular person to which thedevice is to be applied.
In Figure 3 I have shown a modified form which consists of a handle frame piece 15, the top of which is formed in tubular fash ion 16 to provide the hand grip, the opposite sides of the frame being held together through the medium of an adjusting screw 17 so that the distance apart of the legs 18 can be suitably adjusted. This improved one piece construction reduces the cost of the for the I manufacture of the device and enhances the appearance thereof, and makes the device lighter'and more easily, handled.
It will be evident therefore that I have provided an improved form of massaging implement which can be used to adjust the spinal column by applying thereto a roller device which will carry on massaging operation in an eflicient manner.
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree ofparticularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may bem'ade. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the spirit of the in vention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus. described my invention, what- I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is v 1. A chiropractic treatment device comprising spine engaging wheels of substantial Width, leg members to which said wheels are secured, straps joining said leg members, and an adjusting member connecting said straps whereby the transverse distance separating said Wheels may be adjusted.
2. A chiropractic" device comprising spine engaging wheels, leg members having bowedportions, a handle to whichsaid leg members are secured at their upper ends, side straps joining said legs, and an adjusting screw connecting said straps whereby transverse adjustment of said rollers may be made.
In testimony whereof I affix my signa ture.
