Be it known that I, LEWIS L. Soorrr, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Golf Drivers, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide a metal headed golf driver with a very large striking face and yet keep the weight down to practical limits, which weight for the entire club varies from 12 to 14 ounces.

I have found that by having a very large striking face and by teeing the ball high, the chances of hitting the ball are greatly increased. I have also found that greater distance can begotten with a metal head and that greater accuracy can be gotten with a metal driver head using a steel shaft, where said shaft is secured directly to the metal head.

The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

Figure 1 is a front view face of the driver head.

Figure 2 is a section taken on line 1 1 of Figure 1.

Referring now to the drawings, 1 is the main body of my driver head which is made, of an aluminum alloy. 2 is a steel shaft secured to said head. It will be noted that the end of said shaft projects into the hollow interior of said head and that it is enlarged to prevent coming out. 3 is a. metal plate which is attached to the driver head by the screws 4. The numeral 5 indicates reinforcing ribs which firmly connect the striking face with the body of the casting. 6 is a weight which is secured on the inside of said casting for varying the weight of the club head according to requirements.

I claim:

1. A golf driver having a metal head which is hollow and which is provided with an o ning at'the bottom and being pro vided ivith a plate which is rigidly secured to said head and which covers the entire bottom of said head.

A golf driver having a metal head which is hollow and which is provided with an opening at the bottom, and having pro- 5; jccting lugs cast to the walls of said head, and having a plate secured to said head by screws threaded into said projecting lugs, said plate covering the opening at the bottom of said head.

3. A golf driver having a metal head which is hollow and which is provided with an opening at the bottom, said opening being covered by a plate which is attached to said head by screws, one or more reinforcing ribs' joining the inside wall of the striking face to the inside top wall of the club head.

4. A golf driver having an aluminum head which in hollow and which is provided with an opening at the bottom and being provided with a plate which is rigidly secured to said head and which covers the entire bottom of said head.

'5. A golf driver having a hollow metal head, a metal shaft attached thereto and having its end project into the hollow space inside of said head, said projecting end of said shaft being enlarged so as to prevent same from easily being removed.

6 A golf driver having a hollow metal head, a metal shaft attached thereto and having its end project into the hollow space inside of said head, said projecting end being enlarged so as to prevent the easy removal of said shaft and an opening provided in said head opposite the projecting end of said shaft so as to be able to enlarge the end of said shaft after it is mounted in said head and a plate for covering said 90 opening.

A. golf driver having a metal head which is hollow and which is provided with an opening at the bottom and having the interior walls from the opening at the bot- 95 tom converging slightly toward the top wall, and having projecting lugs cast to the walls of said head and having a plate secured to said lugs and covering the opening at the bottom of said head.
