This invention relates to a portable inachine for 'cutting asbestos shingles and anal-.

The upper bar -3- is parallel with the lower bar -2- and has its opposte ends bifurcated to 'receive the upper ends of the upper link arms -5-, and are of just sufficient transverse width to fit easily 'between the o'pposite upright walls of the guide chamber -11--, and are Secured to said side walls by bolts 23 which are also passed throughregistering apertures in the adj acent upper-'ends of the link arms -5- to pivotally connect said' arms to ,the -adjacent ends of thebar -3--and also to the side walls of the brackets -1- and --1'-.

The longer-arm, or handle -10-, of the bell crank lever, extends above the upper end of the adjacent bracket -1-, to overhang the intermediate portionof the device, with sufiicient clearance to allow 'it to be moved vertically'the necessary distance to' open and close the 'movable .shearing bar The shorter bar *8- of the bell crank lever, is connected 'to the bifurcated extension -7- by means of a pivotal pin -26- which is held against endwise displacement by the side v walls of the bracket 1- p e It'will be observed that the adjacent ends -of each pair of link arms is connected to the bar -6- by a single pivot, and that all of the movablepivots, as 24L-- -25- and 126- are held against endwise displaccment solely' by the side walls of the brackets -land 1'- without extra 'astening means such as nuts, cotter keys and' analogous devices.
By renoving the bolts -19- and -19'-, and 'braces '-`-17-, the lower bar -2- may be -readily wthdrawn forwardly through the front,- open side of the branch chambers -12-, in case it should become necessary to sharpenvthe c'utting edge -20- or for any other purposes lili@ By removing the pivotal bolts -9- and 23 the brackets --1-- and -l'-.may be removed, thus permitting the upper bar -3-, shearing bar 4- and its Operating means, including the bar -6-, link levers -5- and bell crank lever to be detached by simply removing the pivotal bolts 24, 25 and 26, which allows the various disassembled parts*to bepacked 'in compact space, for storage or transportation, and also allows the shearing bar t-a to be reslarpened and other repairs to be made if necessary.
The upper bar 3- is provided with shoulders -30- for engaging the inner edges of the upper portions of the brackets -1 and -1'- to assist in holding the latter in fixed spaced relation and thereby to stifien the device as a whole when the pa'ts are assembled for use.
The movabie shearng bar -4- is provided with guide lugs -31- in sliding engagement with `the inner upright edges of the brackets 1- and -1'- to hold said bar against endwise movement and also to guide it in its Vertical movement.
If desired, one or more thin shins -32- may be inserted between the rear edges of the ends of the bar --2- and rear wall of the brackets 1- and --1'-- to allow for slight adjustment of said bar as may be necessary for proper shearing cooperation with the bar -4-.

1. In a shingle cutter, a frame including guide chanbers at the opposite ends therepivotal connections etween said link levers,
Operating bar, Operating level', and mov- -able shearing bar consisting of loose pins which are retained in operative positions by the walls of said guide chambers.
2. In a shingle cutter, a france including hollow upright end heads, a pair of link levers housed within each hollow head, a
movable shearing bar having its encls con-` nected to the link levers within said end heads, an Operating bar connecting said link levers and an operating leVer pvotally connected to one of said hollow heads 'and projectng into the same for pivotal connection with said Operating bar, wherebysaid hollow upright ends will'protect the afoi'e-` mentioned pivotal connections during the operation of the device.
