HANDLE FOR MOPS, BRUSHES, A ND THE LIKE.
Application led January 13, 1922. Serial No. 528,961.
To all lwhom 'it may concern.'
Beit known that we, WALTER H. RUDOLPH and WALLACE S. HART, each a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Handle for Mops, Brushes, and the like, of which the following is a speciication.
Our invention relates more especially to the class of devices for attaching a handle to amop, brush orsimilar article, and an object of the invention, among others, is to providev a device of this class that shall be strong and durable, andthat may be readily aixed to or detached from a. brush or the like, and one that shall be simple in construction. y
One form'of device embodying our invention and in the construction and use of whichthe objects herein set out, as well as others, may be attained, is illust-rated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a bottom view of our improved handle attaching device.
Figure 2 is a side view illustrating this device as attached to a brush, with parts broken away to show construction.
Figure 3 is a top view illustrating the method of attachment of our impro-ved device to a brush or the like.
Figure 4 is a detail view in cross section through the clamp illustrating its construction and method of attachment.
In the accompan ing drawings the numeral 5 illustrates t e frame of a brush, of common construction, that embodies a twisted arrangement of wires within which the material 6 comprising the brush is secured during the twisting operation, the frame v5 and the brush material secured thereto comprising a brush head 7. This brush, or a mop or other structure, to which a handle is to be secured may be of any desired form, as oblong and the ends of the wires comprising the frame 5 are bent at an angle to the head 7 to serve as a means of attachment for a handle to said head;
A socket 8 is suitably formed as from sheet metal to receive a handle 9 that may be of wood or other suitable material, this handle being inserted inthe socket 8 to a dist-ance to insure a firm and strong hold. The handle may be secured within the socket as by means of rivets. The lower end of the socket is ber 10 is located at an angle to the socket i l created between the member 10 and the end of the Yopposite side of the socket.
The member 10 is formed withsides 12 oppositely disposed and a, groove 13 is also made in this member 10 .extending lengthwise thereof along the central portion, the formation of the groove 13 also creating grooves 14, extending lengthwise along the member 10 o-n opposite sides of the groove 13.
A clamp screw 15 is secured to the member 10, the head 16 of this screw being located within the groove 13, the ribs 17 exlsting by reason of the grooves 13 and 14 enclosing the head 16 so that it will not come in contact with articles of furniture or the like to mar them. The grooves 14 on opposite sides of the groove 13 receive the ends 18 of the frame 5, which ends as hereinabove described, are bent at an angle to the head 7. A crosswise groove 19 is also formed in the member 10 to receive that p ortion of the frame 5 from which the ends 18 extend, and as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
A clamp plate 2O is formed of a width to lit between the sides 12, this clamp plate having down-turned edges 21, forming a recess corresponding in a measure with the grooves 14, and this clamp plate has also an end 22 Jformed with a groove to correspond to the groove 19 in the member 10 and to receive the sides of the frame in a similar manner. The end of the clamp plate extends through the opening-11 into the recess in the socket as shown in Fig. 2, suitable means as a thumb screw 23 fitted on the clamp screw 15 serving -to hold the outer end of the clamp plate in place, the securing of the clamp plate being aided by the insertion of its end into the opening 11.
We claim.-
1. A holder comprising a socket member having an angular-ly disposed plate extension provided at its end with transversely disposed lateral projections, said end being curved ithrough said projections to form a transversely extending groove, said extension being curved to form longitudinally extending parallel side4 grooves communieating' at their outer ends with said trans- -as above described an opening 11 will be l verse the portion of I a clamp mem r associated with "the-plate extension, one of said mem- @the outer-faces of 'said' associated'fvwith the p ate extension and' 3 we member for dampingwiri in siid' said extensiionbeing above th e sde vesan ving an opening in or ving the headedend of a holding ele-v l ment with the headof' saidielement positioned inwardly of theouter faces of said ves, and means associated with the plate eansion and holding element for clamping wires in said groove.
2. A holder comprising a supporting men ber having an angularl disposed plate exectionsfto orm al transversely ex- 'groovey and one of said memproin ten A bers" mg'. vcurved said para el groovesbeing disposed therein for the head of said elgnient.
ber having an angularly vdisposedplate extension, a clamp member associated with the plate extension, one of said members being provided at its `outer `end with a ve extending transverselyr thereof and v ormed by a bend extendingpmto the outer surface of said member and transversely thereof and said member beingi'curved to vform a longitudinally extendin groove communicating at its outer end wit said transverse groove and having an opening therein, a holding element located in said o` ening in the crosswise center of said` mem r, andmeans asclam ing ywiresin s 'aid grooves.
- 4. holder comprising aisupporting mem-k ber having an angularly disposed plate'extension, a clamp member associated with the plate "extension, one of said members being provided at its end with a transversely exceptiou'of a holding element, and fori'ni'ng'l a projectionv on the inner surface of the member for 'the reception'of parallely Vdis osed brush wires upon opposite sides thereof: and l a holding element extending througha hole "inysaid pro'ection and including means for 'tendng groove and one of said'membe'rs be` i i n' ing depressed in its o'uiter surface rfor the rg. 55
