DEVICE FOR PRESSING AND STEAMING CAPS.
Application filed December 7, 1922.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, JACOB DAsHnw, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Pressing and Steaming Caps, of which the following is a specitication.
This invention relates to a new and improved device for pressing and steaming caps, and has for its object to provide a device which can be readily adjusted in the cap. and the steam applied to the cap as soon as the adjustment is made, whereby the cap is steamed and pressed at the same time.
The invention consists of the novel con struction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the claims.

Figure 5 is a detail inverted plan view of one of the large sections of the pressing block.

Referring to the accompanying drawin forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views, 1 designates the two large sections of the pressing block and 2 the smaller sections of same. Each of the sections 1 and 2 are provided with a recess 3 extending the full length thereof and a cut-out l on their inner surfaces, and each of said sections 1 and 2 is provided with a. number of apertures 5 leading from the cut out at to the outer surface of the said section. The said sec tions 1 and 2 are each provided with an enlarged end 6 to fit within the cap when the latter is being pressed and steamed. The key-block 7 is tapered and provided with a central aperture 8 extending to near the lower end thereof and having a number of lateral apertures 9 adapted to register with the cut outs 4, and a number of aper tures 10 extending through the lower end of the key block 7. is provided with a projection 11 on each of its four sides which fit within the recesses 8 to hold the sections in their proper relative position and to form a tight joint to prevent the escape of steam until the apertures 9 come opposite the cut-outs 4. In the upper end of the aperture 8 is fitted a pipe 12 through which steam is admitted to the key-block 7 and through apertures 9, 10 and 5 to the cap to be steamed.
The operation of the device is as follows:
The enlarged ends 6 of the sections 1 and 2 are fitted in the cap and the key block '2' is inserted in between said sections and forced down until the cap is tight on the enlarged ends of said sections and the apertures 9 register with the cut-outs l. The steam is then turned on and passes through the pipe 12 to the aperture 8 and then through the apertures '9, 5 and 10 to the cap. After the cap has been sufiiciently steamed and pressed the key block 7 is raised which allows the sections 1 and 2 to come closed together and the cap to be removed therefrom.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device for pressing and steaming caps, comprising a number of sections having inclined inner surfaces and an enlarged end, and a number of apertures leading from said inclined surfaces through the said enlarged end, a tapered key block adapted to fit between said sections and operate against said inclined surfaces to force the said sections apart, an aperture extending downwardly in the center of the key block to near the lower end thereof, and a number of apertures leading from the said cen tral aperture to the apertures in said sections and to the end of the key block.
2. A device for pressing and steaming caps, comprising a number of sections having inclined inner surfaces and an enlarged end, and a number of apertures leading from said inclined surfaces through the said enlarged end, a tapered key block adapted to fit between said sections and operate against said inclined surfaces to force said sections apart, an aperture extending downwardly in the center of the key block to near the lower end thereof, a pipe fitted in the upper end of said central aperture of the key-block, and a number of apertures leading from the said central aperture of the key block to ill) the apertures in the said sections and to the end of the key-block.
3. A device for pressing and steaming caps comprising a number of vsections each having an inclined inner surface and an enlarged end, and a cut-out in the inner surface provided with a number of apertures leading therefrom to the outer surface of the enlarged end, and each provided with a recess in the inclined inner surface extendin g the entire length thereof, a tapered key block adapted to fit between said sections and having a projection on each of its four sides adapted to fit in the recess in the inclined inner surfaces of said sections said key block being provided with a central aperture leading fro-mthe top down to near the lower end thereof and a number of lateral apertures extending from the said central aperture to the cut-outs in the inclined surfaces of the said sections and to the outer surface of the lower end of the key-block, and a steam pipe fitted in the upper end of said central aperture.
