B. REHN GLovE Filed Nov. 6, 1923 BELEN Rai-m Paienied Aug. 12, 1924.
UNITED srfATES BELDEN REHN, OF MILESQIEEY, MONTANA.
GLOVE.
Application filed November 6, 1923. Serial No. 673,100. i
To all 'whom it may concem:
Be it known that BELDEN REHN, a c1t1 zen of the United States, residing at Miles Clty,
' in the county of Custer and State of Montana, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an improved glove of the type worn by switchmen and other railroad p employees, automobile drivers, and the like, and it has more particular reference to key-holding means to be used in association therewith.
Em ployees of the above named class, automobile drivers, and other persons often have frequent use for a key while working in cold weather. During ythis season of the year, it becomes necessary for them to wear gloves and since the latter are usually very cumbersome, it is very annoying to contlnually remove the same as is required in order to take the key from a pocket in ones cloth- I-Iaving observed the difiiculties encountered from the foregoing circumstances, I have conceived a novel type of glove which is designed to carry and hold a key in an out-of-the-way position so that it will at all times be readily accessible for convenient use. i
More specifically speaking, I aim to produce a unique glove having flexible means for connecting the key thereto, this means being such that it will suspend the key in a position to permit it to be quickly and easily grasped between the thumb and first finger for use when the hand is hung down.
Another feature of the invention resides in the provision of an externally disposed pocket which is adapted to receive and hold the key in an out-of-the-way position so that it will not interfere with ones duties.
In the accompanying drawings forming' we observe that the numeral 1 designates generally a type of glove worn more particularly by railway employees. As before pointed out, this glove is equipped with novel means for holding the key 2, and this means preferably comprises a flexible member such as a leather strap 3 which has its upper end stitched or otherwise connected to the wrist-encircling band of the glove as indicated at 4. This point of connection is adjaoent and slightly above the thumb of the glove. Hence, when the hand is hung down, Vthestrap falls in the approximate line shown in Fig. 1. Attention is here directed to the fact that the strap is of a length such as to dispose the key slightly beyond the outer end of the thumb when the strap is in a hanging state. This makes for convenient and quick grasping of the key between the thumb and first finger. With a little practice, the key can be grasped while suspended with one hand without requiring removal of either glove.
So that the key will not interfere with the userls duties when not in use, I stitch a relatively small pocket 5 on the top of the glove in any convenient position so as to permit the key to be inserted into it as seen in Fig. 2. While it is not essential, I prefer to have the open end of the pocket directed toward the thumb to facilitate insertion and withdrawal of the key.
While the invention is shown applied to a particular type of glove, it is to be understood that it is not to be restricted to such application, for it can be used equally well on other forms of gloves and mits. Also, although a specific form of pocket has been shown and a particular location for the same selected, this part can well be varied within the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claim:
1. In combination, a glove, a strap connected at one end of said glove, a key connected to the free end of the strap, and means on the glove for holding the key in an out-of-the-way position when not in use.
2. A glove having a strap connected to its wrist-encircling portion at a point adjacent and above its thumb receiving portion, a key connected to the free lower end of said strap, the latter being of a length to dispose the key in a convenient position 'to be readily grasped between the thumb a length to extend beyond the free outer end of said thumb, and a key connected to the free end of the Strap. 10
In testmony Whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
BELDEN REHN.
