To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, CHARLES T. MGEL- VANEY and WILLIAM WILSON, citizens of the UnitedStates, residing .at'Parsons, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas,
have invented certain new and useful Im provements in lFuel Mixers and Ejectors, of which th'e following is a specification.
This invention relates vto a fuel' ejector and mixer for burners and the like, for use in connection with steam generators, boilers, and other like structures,.and the primary objectl of the invention is to provide a novel and simple device embodying a fuel bowl having an'air inlet, and an ejector for sucking in fuel and air and for mixing the same and forcing the mixed product in the nature of an iniiammable vapor` or gas, to the. point' where the same is to be'used.`
Another'object of the invention is the provision of a novel fuel ejector and mixer, which is of exceptionally simple and durable construction, `and which embodies a minimum number of parts, and whichwill d irect aconstant stream of mixed fuel and air in varying quantities according to the prcssure of the steam or air flowing through `the ejector, and which embodies automatic means for controlling the flow of, fuel into the body of the device.
Anotherobject` of the invention is to provide `an improved means for feeding fuel to the burners 'of steam boilers and the like, which leliminates the necessity of applying pressure to fuel storage tanks, thereby adding to the life of said tank and preventing the ready forming of leaks therein, and which permits burning of all kinds of liq-l f uid fuel, and embodies means for thoroughly mixing the fuel with air to form an inflammable mixture, thereby decreasing the fuel consumption and permitting a hotter fire to he had at the burner.
Vith these and other objects iii-view,` the invention consists in-the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed and illustrated i-n the accompany# ing drawings, forming a part ofl this specification, in which drawings:u

Referring to the drawings in detail. wherein similar reference characters designate correspondir part-s throughout the several views, the letter A indicates the improved mixer and ejector, which includes the liquid fuel bowl 5. This bowl 5 may be of any desired shape or form and constructed of any desired material. As shown in the drawings, thebowl 5 is substantially semispherical shaped, and can be made in one or more parts. An upper section (3 is pro vided for the bowl and includes a fiat plate 8A which overlies the upper surface ofthe bowl andis connected thereto, by means of suitable'cap screws 9. The bowl 5 at one end thereof has communicating therewith a fuel inlet pipe .9, which leads into a laterally extending chamber 10. This chamber 10 has' secured thereto in any preferred manner, as at 11, the fuel supply pipe 12. A valve'seat 13v is formed in the chamber 10 and is adapted to receive the valve 14, which -is utilized for controlling the flow of fuel from the supply pipe 1Q intov the chamber 10 and into thebowl 5. The valve 14 isy controlled by afloat 15, which is mounted within the bowl 5, and it canbe seen that the floatl is adapted to raise or lower with This float 15 can be' made in any desired manner and of any preferred material. made of wood or cork, or of hollow construction and out of metal. The float 15 has secured thereto the rearwardly extending arm 16, which is fulcrumed, as at 17, on a pivot pin which is carried by the sides'of the fuel inlet pipe 9.' By this construction, upon the raising or lowering of the float 15, the valve 14 will be raisedor lowered'therewith. v A suitable removable cap 18 can be provided, for the chamber 10, in order to permit ready access to be had to the valve 14 and the seat 13, in order to permit repairs or replace ment thereto.

The inner end of this valve housing 25 terminates'at the axial vcenter of the tube 23 and receivesan ordil be provided forv the needle valve 26, in order to prevent the leakage `of the `liquid around the same. rPhe valve opening 1n the casing25 can be formed relatively large 1f so desired, owing to the nature of the fuel used with the combined ejector and mixer.

'in order to'permit the draining of any sedi'- ment from the lower part of the bowl. .i The upper section 8 supports the ejector 35, whichformsan important part of the. invention. lrThe ejector 35 includes a body 36, which isformed integral'with lthe stop plate 8, and extends at right angles to the tube 22', which'projects into the same. The body 36 isip'rovided 4with a reduced internally threaded bore 37, which -receives an ejector vnozzle 38; This nozzlel 38 extends into the body. 36v and into a second nozzle A 39, which is formed relativelylarger in diameter than they nozzle 38. inner end ofthe nozzle 39 is fiared as at 40, in order to facilitate the receiving of the innerend of the nozzle 38. The nozzle 39 is provided with a screw threaded portion which is fitted in a screw threaded bore 41 formed inthe body 36. One end of the body 36 receives a suitable supply pipe 42, which is connected thereto-in any preferred man ner as at 43. Thepipe 42 supplies the air or steam under pressure to the nozzle 38, and the fluid' forcibly flowing-through the nozzle will suck 'the fuel from the bowl 5 and air from the air tube 2() into the body or chamber 36 .where the same will be intermixed and sucked into the nozzle 39 by the steam or air pressure and then ejected out ofthe nozzle into a lead pipe 45,'which can extend to a suitable burner or the like. The lead pipe 45 can be connected to the body 36 in any preferred manner.
The use o f the invention is unlimited, and can be effectively used in connection with the steam engine of motor vehicles owing to the compact land efficient nature thereof, and the fact that the fuelcan be automatically controlled by the amount of steam or air ad-v mitted into the pipe 42.
As shown the Changes in details may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of -lthis invention, but;
We claim:
l. A fuel mixer and ejector comprising a fuel bowl, a fuel inlet pipe communicating with the bowl, an air inlet pipe extending into'the bowl, means for automatically regulating the amount of fuel in said bowl, means connecting the air pipe with the bowl, a valve for controlling the How of fuel into the' inlet pipe, a body carried by thebowl, an ejector nozzlein said body,
and'meansi connecting the bodywith the t air inlet pipe.
2.'A. combined mixer and ejector coni- 4ing into'the bowl, a chamber carried by the upper. end of the bowl, means fortestablishing communication between the air inlet pipe and'chamber, an ejector nozzle disposed in the chamber, a secondd nozzle communicating with the chamber and receiving the free end of the first ejector nozzle, means for establishir'lgl communication between the fuel chamber and the air inlet pipe, a manually operable valve disposed in the fuel pipe for controlling the fiow of fuel into said air inlet pipe.
3. A combined mixer and fuel ejector comprising a bowl for receiving fuel, a fuel pi e communicating with the bowl, an air in et pipe'extending into the bowl, a chamber carried by the upper' end of the bowl, a laterally extending offset terminal formed on the inner end of the air inlet pipe, a pipe communicating with the air inlet pipe and with the chamber, a. laterally extending nipple formed on the air inlet pipe and communicating with the fuel bowl, a valve seat f'ormed in said nipple, a valve for controlling the flow of fuel pastsaid seat, "'a pressure pipe communicating with one end of the chamber, anejector nozzle arranged in the chamber and communicating with said pressure pipe, and an outlet nozzle communicating with the chamber and arranged to receive the free end of said first mentioned nozzle.
