WILLIAM ."BAUGHMAN PEER/ZEN, 0F KOSI-IKONONG, MISSOURI.
PABCEL-POST-ENVELOPE TAG.
Application filed February 26, 1920.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that FVILLIAM BAUGHMAN PERRIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Koshkonong, in the county of Oregon and State of Missouri, has invented new and useful Improvements in Parcel-Post-Envelope Tags, of which the following is a specification. v
The object of the invention is to provide means for conveying a communication in the way of a letter of instructions to the addressee of a parcels post package under conditions which will insure the receipt of the instructions by the addressee and coincidentally with the receipt of the package, without the necessity of posting a separate letter or the payment of additional tariff to convey the desired instructions, and to this end the invention consists in providing a tag suitable for hearing the address to which the package is to be forwarded and having in combination therewith a letter sheet or envelope suitable for carrying or containing the message necessary for the proper instruction of the addressee, and in this connection to provide a construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the-accompanying drawing, wherein: i
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a combined ta and envelo 3e embod ine the in- 2% O vention.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the same in its open position or prior to the sealing thereof.
Figures 3 and -1- are respectively transverse and longitudinal sectional views of the same.
The device consists essentially of a tag stub 10 having a suitable reenforced eye 11 for engagement by a cord by which the device may be attached to the package to be forwarded by parcels post, and carried by this tag stub is a foldable sheet 12 consisting of the main fold 13 the side or lateral flaps l l foldable on the crease lines 15 to occupy a position parallel with the main fold and an end or fastening flap 19 which may be of triangular form as shown and which is adapted to be folded upon the side flaps to secure the latter in their folded relation to the main fold,
Serial No. 361,445.
The exterior surface of the device when folded as shown in Figure 1 is adapted to receive the name and address of the addressee together with the postage stamp to insure the proper conveyance and delivery of the package, and the inner surface of the main fold is adhesively secured to one surface of the tag stub by means of a gummed edge 17 so that prior to folding the article has the appearance indicated in Figure 2. The message to the prospective recipient of the package may be written upon the inner surface of the sheet forming the fold 13 and flaps 1a, or the message may be written on a separate sheet and placed in the receptacle or envelope formed by said foldable sheet, the edges of the flaps 14 being gummed as shown at 18 for adhesive attachment respectively to the surface of the tag stub opposite to that which is inv contact with the main fold, and to the exterior surface of the side flap which is first folded over the main fold as will be readily understood by reference to Figures 3 and 4t, and correspondingly the inner surface of the fastening or end flap 19 is gummed as shown at 16 for adhesive attachment to the exterior surfaces of the folded side flaps to hold them in proper relation with the main fold either to conceal a message written upon the inner surface of the sheet forming the envelope or to properly retain a separate sheet enclosed within the envelope and bearing the message to the addressee.
l/Vhat is claimed is:
A parcels post envelope tag consisting of a tag stub provided with means for attachment to a parcel, and a sheet consisting of a main fold and lateral flaps foldably related with the main fold, the main fold at one end being secured to the stub and the lateral flaps being attachable to the stub when folded, and a fastening flap formed with the main fold at the opposite end from the stub and having adhesive applied to its edges for securement on top of the lateral flaps.
In testimony whereof he aflixes his signature.
lVILLIAM BAUGHMAN PERRIN.
