To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN BRASSELL, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in ire Looping and Coiling Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tools and has particular reference to a wire looping and coiling tool.
One object of this invention is to provide a tool of the character described, which is equipped with changeable adjustable jaws for operative use on various sizes of cables.
Other objects of the invention are to provide means associated with the handles of the tools for retaining the jaws in a fixed position, andmeans disposed between the jaws adapted to support and place in an operative position the wire to be coiled.

In the accompanying drawingswherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 4 and 5 indicate a pair of jaws respectively, mounted to swing upon a pivot pin 6 and having handle 7 and 8 respectively, the handle 7 extending from and being integrally formed with the jaw 5, while the handle 8 extends from and is integrally formed with the jaw 4. For the purpose of retaining the handles in pivotal V relation, a nut 9 encircles the'pivot pin 6.

This spring acting in conjunction with the pawl serves to automatically lock the curved arm in a fixed position, the purpose of which will be hereinafter described.
Pivotally mounted on the inner face of the jaws 4L and 5 adjacent the point of pivotal connection, are toggle levers 16 and"- 17, WhlCll are in turn connectedto a supporting element18. This element has provided therein an arcuate groove 19, as shown to advantage in Figure 2, which is adapted to retain therein the wire tobe coiled. It 7 will be apparent that inward movement of the jaws will cause the element 18to travel in a vertical direction, as indicated by the wire to be coiled will be placed into position to be operated upon by the extremities of the jaws 5 and 6, which position is regulated by the inward and outward pressure exerted on the handles 7 and 8.
For the purpose of making the jaws 8 5 changeable and accordingly adjustable to various sizes of cables, I have equipped the I jaws with longitudinal grooved portions 20 and 21, receivable withinslots'23 provided in the jaws, and secured therein by fastening elements, preferably set screws, 24.
In the use of my device, a. cable or wire is inserted in the arcuate groove of the supporting member and inwardpressure on the handles 7 and 8 will causethe toggle levers 16 and 17 to accordingly raise thesupp orting element. lVhen this action occurs the adjustable jaws will cause the strands of 7 wire or cable to be compressed thereby forming a loop in the cable, and a twisting movement imparted to the handles will cause one of the strands to be coiled about the stationary strand. The pawl 14 actuated by the spring 15 controls the position of the curved arm and thus tends'to retain the, jaws 4i and 5 in a fixed position.
