Be it known that I, Nonnrr O. MEGORDEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clearwater, in the county of Jefferson and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in toys and has particular reference to that type of toy adapted to be drawn after the person by a string or other drawing member.
The principal object of this invention is to produce a toy which will simulate the movements of an animal.
Another object of this invention is to produce a toy which is attractive in appearance, cheap to manufacture and one which may be utilized as a vehicle upon which a child may be drawn if desired.
Other objects and advantages will be ap-- parent during the course of the following d'escri tio-n.

I am aware of the fact that toys have been made which represent animals, but these representations as far as I am aware of do not simulate all the movements of the animal, where in my device I have performed this function and consequently a child playing with the same secures moreenjoyment.
In the accompanying drawings wherein 'urpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 represents the body portion of the animal which is formed with a hollow interior 6. A tail 7 which may be hollow or solid as conditions permit is pivoted at 8 and is adapted to swing in the various dotted linepositions shown in Figure 2. This tail may be a tached by a dovetail as shown in Figure 1 or may be merely lapped. I provide an under jaw 9 integral with the body I of the animal and an upper jaw 11 pivoted as at 12, the ends of the pivot forming the eyes as shown at 13. At 14 I have shown a p tongue which is adapted to slide between guides. .16 and 17 (see Fig. 2). This tongue is attached by a rod 18 to a crank 19 supported as at 21 and 22 in the sides of the.
body portion 5. Wheels 23 and 24 are secured upon the crank 19 and through their contact with the surface over which the toy is being drawn causes thecrank 19 to revolve. This revolving causes the tongue 1.4 through its connection 18 to move inwardly and outwardly 'between the guides 16and 1.7. At the same time this movement is tak ing place a rod 26 contacting the underside of the crank 19 transmits movement to the upper jaw 11 to which it is connected as best shown in Figures 2 and 3. A link 27 connects the crank 19 with an eye bolt 2-1 secured inthe tail 7 at a point on the opposite sidefrom the pivot 8. It will thus he seen that as the wheels 23 and 2 1 are revolved motion will be transmitted to the crank 19 which will through the connecting members 18 and 27 cause thetongue 14 to move inwardly and outwardly and will cause the tail 7 to hinge on its pivot and thereby simulate the wagging motion of a crocodiles tail. At the same time the contact of the rod 26 with the underside of'the crank. 19 will cause the jaw 11. to open which opening will take ace as the tongue. moves forwardl an will close as the tongue is drawn into t e mouth.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape,
size and arrangement of pants may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined my invention, I
