K. SCHOLZ I OBSTETRIC APPARATUS I 2 shuts-shes; 1

oBs'rETaI'c arranagzus. i
Application filed m 31, 1922, Seria 1 n5. missed 1 To all'whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, KATHARIN Sorrow, residing at. Freiheit, Bohemia, Czechoslo-. vakian Republic, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Obstetric Ap paratu's, and for which I have. filed applications in Czechoslovakia,,July 2, 1921, P. 431821; Germany, July 7,1921, Sch..62269 11/30 ;'Austria, July 4., 1921, A. 3873-21;
I n cessible during the parturition as well as to provide the patient with devices which allow her to utilize her own muscular strength. Heretofore gynaecologists have attempted to accomplish these requirements by pushing cushions and the like, underneath the patient. By so doing they merely succeeded in elevating the'patients pelvis without keeping the perineum easily accessible for such manipulations or operations as might be necessary. The patient must be enabled tooling, a matter which usually 1s accomplished by the aid of assistants. Nowant for this purpose.
7 a bedv showin the use of my apparatus hereinafter described obviates the necessity The annexed drawings show diagrammatically two arrangements for practicing my invention. I
Fig, 1 relates to a parturient keeping a stretched posture and shows a bed in cross section. I
.Fig. 2 is a side elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a transversecross sectionof tirely to one-si deof the bed;
The apparatus as showuinFigs; 1 and sists of asaddle' e which is pushed under the pelvis of the patient and is connected carried by the supports 1' which are securely fixed tothe bedsides.
These supports are preferably secured to the Sideboards of the bed by means of the two clamps n which are adapted to overlap of an assist be, properly exerted. the apparatus attached en-V the edges of the Sideboardsandaresecured ATENT-Q FiF-HCE together in vertically spaced relationship by 1 means of a strut m in which the] clamps are adjustably screwed so that they may be ad: j'usted according to the height of the sideboards of the bed. 1
If the apparatus is used on a'met al bed an ad ustable reinforcingstrut'l isinsertedbetween the metal tubes of the bed as shown at the right of Fig. 1). The strut m isprovided with a bearing m in which a sheave f is rotatably mounted and which can be operated by a lever h rigidly attached'thereto.
The line it which runs roundthe 'roller'y is fixed in a groove of said sheave f so that,
when the lever his forced down, the movement'of the sheave will cause the line to pull upon th'efsaddle and elevate it.
- If the patient is "placed in the stretched posture the apparatus is fixed to the two bedsides so that the supports are connected with each other by the saddle e.
By grasping the handles of the levers. h, r
on either side and forcing them down the patient brings herself into the required position which can be evenimprovedby an assistant further depressing the lever. The handle 0 is then screwed on the support";
so that the patient is enabled to firmly cling with thrown out arms. The release lever it IS prevented'from returning to its original position by means of the pawl and ratchet 5 10 so that any change of the elevated posture of the patient is avoided. Supports for the patients feet are provided by the upper faces, of the sideboards of the bed. The
clinging on the handles of the supports 6,
which are placed outside the .surgeons sphere of action, as .well as the pressure of If it is desired to keep the patient in a slanting position, both of the struts. i and g the} parts attached thereto are secured; to 2 is attached to both sides of. the bed cononly one sideof the bed (as shown in Fig.
3) and the patient is placed transversely across the bed. When the apparatus is used -in-'this manner thefoot rests d in'which It may be pointed out as an advantage'of this arrangement which is used merely in precarious cases, that it makes the pelvis of the patient quiteieasily accessible so that the surgeon is enabled to perform any nec essary operation and also that the supports against which the strength of the patient is exerted do not interfere with the sphere of action of the physician. l
The several parts of the apparatus are uite foldab'le and manageable so that the apparatus is easily transportable and can be attached to any bed.
Having now particularly described my invention and what it consists of I declare that what I claim is:
1. An obstetric apparatus for facilitating parturiency comprising a pair of supports, sheaves rotatably mounted on said supports, a vertically movable saddle upon which the pelvis offthe patient is adapted to be supported, a lever rotatably mounted on each support, a handle adapted to be interchangeably secured to said support .or said lever and flexible means connecting said lever and saddle and passing over said sheaves, whereby when the muscular strength of said patient is exerted upon said lever said saddle will be raised.
2. An obstetric apparatus as set forth in claim 1 in which a pawl and ratchet is connected with said lever to automatically lock said lever and hold said saddle in its raised position. V 3. An obstetric apparatus for facilitating parturiency comprising a pair of supports, sheaves rotatably mounted on said supports, a vertically movable saddle upon which the pelvis of the patient is adapted to be supported, a lever rotatably mounted on each of said supports, a handle adapted to be det'ac-hably secured to said. support or said lever, flexible means passing over said sheaves connecting said lever and saddle and a foot rest adapted to be detachably secured to said lever whereby said lever may be actuated by the muscular strength of the arms or legs of the patient to raise said saddle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
KATHARINA. SCHOLZ.
