WINDOW-SCREEN.
Application filed August 20, 1918. Serial No. 250,658.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that LENGELBERT JAwoREK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crescent City, in the county of Del Norte.
and State of California, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Window-Screens, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window screens and its object is to provide a screen that is moved by the movement of the window sash. As one sash is moved into open position the screen is moved into operative position and as the sash is moved into closed position the screen is moved into inoperative position. A screen is provided for the upper sash and one for the lower window sash both screens moving through a pair of oppositely disposed adjustable guides secured to the sides of the window casing between the windows. The guides form a substantial guard against the entry of insects about the lateral edges of the screen thereby making the construction positively insect proof.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described in this specification,
pointed out in'the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification, in which Figure l is a front View of a window pro vided with my improved screen;
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1';
Fig. 3 is anenlarged fragmentary front view of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a section on line 44 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view illustrating the form of screen guide employed.
Like reference characters denote corre sponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the win- Specification of Letters Patent.
Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 55 of dow casing provided with an upper and lower sash 2 and 3. To the lower rail of the lower sash I secure one end of the screen 4 which runs through an opening 5 in the easement and is wound upon the roller 6 arranged below the window sill., Another screen 7 is secured to the upper rail of the sash 2 and extends through an opening 8 Patented Nov. 25, 3191 .9.
in the head of the casing and about the shaft 9 arranged in that liead. Both screens have their lateral edges running in the oppositely disposed substantially U-shaped guides 10, which are secured by screws 11 to the sides of the casing. The said guides are disposed between the sashes 2 and 3 and take the place of the ordinary inner window strips. The screw 11 of each guide 10 carries a washer 12 threaded upon said screw by means of which the guides are to be adjusted with relation to the casing and at right angles thereto. The adjustment just described permits the guides to be moved toward or away from each other to accommodate screens'of varying diameters. Each guide extends from top to bottom of the window casing. The guides are moved away from the side of the casing by turning the washers 12 in a direction to move the screws out of or into the. casing, the heads of the screws carrying the said guides with them.
What I claim is A device for guiding movable screens including U-shaped guides carried by the sides of the window casing and receiving the edges of. the screens, supports for said guides adjustable in the window casing, and means on said last named means for locking the same in place after adjustment.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing wit-
