Description

I STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
' madein the manner hereina CLAUS H. LIGHT, OF DES MOIN'ES, IOWA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-FOURTH TO JACOB ZEINEB AND ONE-FOURTH TO BESSIE HINDLE, BOTH OF DES MOINES, IOWA.
1,309,038. Io Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLAUS H. LIGHT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Sandless Concrete, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a sandless concrete composed of certain ingedients which are inexpensive and may easily obtained in substantial quantities.
A further object is to provide such a concrete which will be comparatively light weight, and which may be varied in weight by varying the proportions of the ingredicuts to suit thgdpurpose for which the prodnot is to be us Still a further object is to rovide such a sandlem concrete com sed 0 such ingredients as may be vari in their proportions for regulating the hardness of the resultin product.
%till a further object is to provide such a sandless concrete which will not crack and into which nails may be driven or screws forced without injuring the product.
Still a further object is to provide such a concrete to which further coatin of the same concrete will bind even after t e original roduct has set, and hardened and dried.
, ith theseand other objects in view my invention consists in the sandless concrete fter described,
of the ingredients hereinafter set forth in the resulting P not from crackin 'under any weather conditions. The lime ardens the product. 3
T e ingredients ma be mixed in the proportions according to ulk as follows sawdust, 2 -J I if? ,i
' 1 isnahwever if it is desirable a make 1 portion of sawdust may detail.
M improved sandless co mete consists of unslaked), and
e propo 10118 of the ingredients may be very great y varied.
I find that the laster of Paris prevents the resulting product liiltgci eiazzaigallilla the3 lreciflmion of L s Patent Patented July 8, 1919. Application filed November 29, 1918. 8eria11Io.'864,667.
portion of cement decreased and these ingredients may be varied from the proportion of one to one to the pro ortion of our to one, or the variation may e even greater and the resulting product will still be satisfactory for many urposes.
The addition 0 more lime will make the resulting product harder.
The portion of plaster of Paris may be varied greatly depending upon the use to which the resulting roduct is to be put.
It will be noted t at I have named sawdust'as one of the ingredients. I desire to say in this connection that any finely divided fibrous ve etable roductm be d e product is madeb mix' inggedients thoro hly whil or substantially dr and then mixing a suitable amounto a r. The products are madein molds an are a owed to set and dry.
. I. mm
A block of sandless concrete made as i herein'before set forth may be dried and Y hardened and thereafter another layer of similar material may be placed on the first block and I find that a perfect bond will result. It is thus 1 in layers wit a ver lar proportion Sini cheaper material such as sawdust and the like and to make a hard s'inooth outer coating with a lar e rtion of cement and lime and laster o aris, or with a lar r portion 0 either of the last three named mgredients. V
A nail can be driven into a block of my sandless concrete without crackin it.
It will be seen that with a pro not of this kind it is possible to build sidewalks, pav' uc'ts, monpments, building blocks, roo mg tile, fence posts, brick, railroad ties, for silos and a great variety of other puijposes."
, V y sandless concrete may be for plastering orfor' other uses where ordinary .stucco would be employed.
{The advantage of neat cement-orpf inyisandless concrete a large proportion of cement may be ible to make the underwill recelve a nail or placed on the outside of a block or the like I claim as my invention: 10 and the resulting product will be practically 1. A sandless plastic product consisting of water proof. sawdust, cement, plaster of Paris and lime. The blocks made of my material will take 2. A sandless plastic product consisting of 6 water proof oil. sawdust, cement, plaster of Paris, and lune,
It is my intention to cover my invention in substantially the proportions of eight, 15
for any use to which it may be put and in four, one and one, according to bulk. any variation of the ingredients above-men- Des Moines, Iowa, November 15, 1918. tioned. CLAUS H. LIGHT.
Copies of this pstent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the "Commissioner 01 ratents, Washington, D. 0.
