BY W Q ATTORNEY5.
NITED STATES LEAH M. KIRWAN, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
BANDAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 9, 1921.
Application filed August 9, 1920. Serial No. 402,311.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEAH M. KIRWAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new. and useful improvements in a bandage. v
One object of the invention is to provide a bandage of the character described which is formed to fit around the body of the wearer and is provided with a holder for absorbent cotton, or other absorbent material, said holder being so formed that the absorbent may be readily removed and the bandage cleansed and new absorbent inserted therein. I
A further feature of the inventionresides in the provision of i a bandage which is formed of elastic material so that it will notbind the body but will permit the free movements thereof.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, arrangement of parts and use, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated. in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view of the bandage, and
Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Referring now more articularly to the drawings the numeral 1 esignates the body of the bandage which is preferably formed of strong thin rubber. An oblong flap 2 is vulcanized at one edge 3 to said body and the other edge 4 of said flap is free and carries suitable fasteners as 5 which are arranged to be engaged with corresponding fasteners carried by the body 1 so that the free edge of the flap may be fastened to and unfastened from said body. The central part of the flap has cut away portions forming suitable openings 6, and absorbent cotton or other absorbent material as 7 may be inserted between the flap and body and the free edge of the flap then secured to said body to hold said absorbent in place. This absorbent material is exposed through the openings 6 and may be removed from time to time as necessary by unbuttoning the free edge of the flap and removing said material and replacing it with new material. To each end of the body 1 there is secured elastic fabric sections 8 and 9, and fastened to the section 8 are the securing straps 10, 10
hold the belt distended to full width and are removable. They are normally held in their places by suitable openings in the belt and each opening is held normally suitable clasps 19, 20, 21 and 22.
What I claim is A bandage formed of an elastic body, a
flap fastened permanently at one edge-to said body and forming a pocket, and provided with an openin absorbent material fitted between said ap and body, cross straps holding said material in place, means whereby the other edge of the flap is detachably secured to said body to retain said material in place, securing straps carried by each end of the bandage and means carried by the respective ends of the straps whereby they may be secured around the body of the wearer.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
LEAH M. KIRWAN.
