IMPROVEMENT IN GAUNTLET-GLQVES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,988, dated April 15, 1873; application filed February 21, 1873.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IsAAo B. WHIPPLE, of

Gloversville, county of Fulton and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Gauntlet-Gloves.

The following description, taken in connection with the accompanying plate of drawing similar class, together with such parts thereof 1 as are claimed as new and are desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States.

My invention relates to certain improvements in the manufacture of gloves, hereinafter described.

In-the accompanying drawing, which illus trates my invention, Figure 1 represents a gauntlet-glove with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents same with catch fastening.

The object of this invention is to provide the gauntlet-glove with a pocket where it will not be exposed, and which will be found conyenient for use as a portemonuaie, or for any small article.

In the drawing, the gauntlet A is provided with a pocket formed on the outer surface of the Wrist-piece or cuff, and upon the under or palm side thereof, indicated by letter B, the

mouth of said pocket having the lap D, which is fastened by loop and button d.

Although said pocket is represented as being fastened by a simple button and loop, it is obvious that any other fastening-device may be used at discretion; A locking device, however, constructed substantially as represented in Fig. 2, is one I prefer to use, but to which I make no claim, as it is not new with me.

I am aware that gloves having pockets in the palms are old, and also that suggestions have been made to place the pocket wherever desired; and therefore I do not claim such features, broadly; but

What I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent as an improved article of manufacture, is-

A gauntlet-glove having a safety-pocket, B, formed on the outer surface of the wrist-piece or cuff, and upon the under or palm side thereof, the mouth of said pocket being provided with a suitable fastening device, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
