Description

F. M. LASERSON. POCKET MARKING MACHINE.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 30. I919.

' i 3 application filed-June so,
T all whom it may concern:
' Be it. known that I, FREDERICK M. LASER- SON, a citizen of Great Britain, and resident of New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Marking Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pocket marker machines. More particularly, this invention relates to a type of hand operated machines for marking pockets, button holes and the like on garments while manufacturing the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a Fig. 5 is a detail view of the mark locating finger. I I I 11 using the machlne the operator moves it over the garments which are placed in a pile of. several layers and the points to be Y bracket.
marked by perforations through the several layers of cloth are marked on the latter with chalk or otherwise. It is therefore quite necessary that the machine be made light and also rigid so that accurate work may be obtained and the machine easily moved from place to place on the cloth. It is also essential that the operator has an unobstructed view of the marks on the cloth.
With these objects in view the machine is provided with a relatively heavy open work base 5 to which is secured a needle guide 6 in the form of a bracket extending across the basewith the aperture 7 for the needle located preferably centrally of the To one side of the base there is'secured an'upright hollow column 8 which forms a handle supporting portion 9 at its upper end 'PocKrrr-MA1;alive"i iiicurivii.
191 9. ser arii ,eaten!" 1 as shown; The top oftheiupright is'closed" with a cap 10 which forms-a handle:'or"-kn0b as showniandthere is secured spring 11 Specificationof LetterSIfatent within said-upright. To the lower end of the spring there secured a block'jor follower 12. Thecolumn is provided. with a slot 13. 14 is a motor bracket secured to said block 12 by means of "a screw 14?- which passes through said bracket, through the slot 13 and into the follower. The shank 15 of thescrew serves as a means forpreventing rotation of the bracket-14L. To the latter 1s secured'an electric motor 16 which rotates the perforating needle 17 To the motor bracket is secured a connecting plug 18 from which a cable 19 leads to themotor.
20 is a stop collar on the column or upright 8 for the motor bracket and 21 is a handle or knob on the motor.
In operation the machine is placed over i the proper marks on the cloth with the needle in register with said marks. The machine is easily lifted and placed over the mark by using the left hand or both'hands.
Thereafter the operator keeps the machine steady with the left hand grasping the handle or knob 10 and with the right hand he grasps the handle 21 and'presses downward thereby feeding the needle through the garments, it being understood that the machine is connected to a source of electriccurrent by a suitable connection, not shown, which is connectedto the plug 18."
In feeding the needle downward, the operj ator pushes against the forceof the spring 11 as'is obvious. -When the marking is completed the operator lets go with the right hand and then the spring pulls the motor bracket and motor upward until the bracket:
14 abuts the stop collar 20.
It will thus be seen that during the operation the machine is kept steady with the one hand and whereby the base is also pressed down upon the goods keeping them smooth and insuring avertically downward working of the needle so that exact work results.
In order to assist the operator in locating the marks upon the cloth, there may be attached to the needle guide 6 a mark locating I finger 25 having a hole 26 in axial alinement with the needle aperture 7. The finger 25 slides over the cloth in contact therewith and thus makes it easy for the operator to place the machine with the needle in proper register with the mark on the cloth, as will be understood.
I claim. I
A pocket marking machine comprising an open work base, provided with an aperture, a tool guide secured to said base and having an aperture in alinement with the aperture 'aforesaid,- a slotted upright secured to said base, a block withinsaid upright, a motor bracket surrounding said upright and adapt- -ed to slide thereon, means for connecting said motor vbracket and the said block through the aforesaid slot in the upright, a
motor supported in said motor bracket, a 15 marking tool carried by said motor' and adapted to operate through the apertures aforesaid, means for depressing said motor thesaid block for automatically lifting said motor and tool after the same has-been depressed.
Signed at New York, in the county of New- York and State of New York this 28th day of June, A. D. 1919. V
