Be it known that I, Auonusou MANsFIELD liomms, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new. and useful Improvements in Atomizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in atomizer-s, and has for its object to provide a simple and convenient apparatus so constructed and arranged that the medicine to be inhaled by the patient will be discharged therefrom in the form of a cool relatively dry vapor.
The invention consists ot the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination oi parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in detail in the appended claims.

12 by the pipe 30 through which the steam from the boiler 3 passes to the condensing chamber 12, which connects with asecond condensing chamber 13 by a pipe 1% which has one end open near the top of the chamber 12 and the other end extending down close to the bottom of the chamber 13. The said condensing chamber 13 is provided with an outlet pipe 15 near the top thereof and having a discharge nozzle 16 on its outer end, which causes the vapor to be discharged in the form of a spray and also causes a pressure in the condensing chambers 12 and 13. The said condensing chamber 13 is provided with excelsior, or other suitable material, which holds in its pores and upon its surface the medicine that is supplied to said chamber 13 through the pipe 17 at the top thereof, thereby preventing the medicine from dropping down into the water of condensation at the bottom of the chamber 13 andalso permitting a more perfect absorption of the medicine by the steam as it passes up through said excelsior. The condensing chamber 12 is provided with a discharge pipe 18 which has its lower end terminating near the bottom of the chamber 12 and its upper end projecting throughthe casing 1 near the top thereof and provided with a valve 19 to open and close said pipe. The water of condensation in chamber 12 is discharged through said pipe 13 at any time while the apparatus is in operation by simply opening the valve 19 as there is a steam pressure within the apparatus suiiicient to cause said discharge owing to the smallness of the discharge nozzle 16. The water of condensation that collects in the chamber 13 will be drawn into chamber 12 through the pipe 1st whenever the heater 20 is removed or its flame is extinguished, as vacuum will be created in said chamber 12, which causes a suction through said pipe 14. The tank 2 is filled throitigh the pipe 1 by the use of the tunnel 21 which is adjustable on the rod 22 and is adapted to be swung about the axis of said rod so that it will aline with the upper end of the pipe st. The boiler 3 is held by an arm 23 which latter is adjustable on the rod 29%. The water is supplied to the boiler 3 from the tank 2 by forcing air through the pipe 1 to said tank 2 which causes the water to flow up through the pipe 6 boiler 3. If it be desired to force air into said boiler 3*to create a pressure therein, the
valve 8 is closed and valve 9 opened which allows airto pass from the tank 2 through the pipe 7 union 10 and pipe 11 to the boiler 3. Between the condensing chambers 12 and 13 is a gasolene chamber 25 provided with a V pipe 26 which projects through the side of the casing 1 and has its inner end terminating just below the top of said gasolene chamber and a pipe 27 which has its lower end projecting down to near the through the side of the casing I. Said pipes 26 and 27 are provided respectively with valves 28 and 29 and are connected by a union 31 to the'pipe'32 which latter leads to ithe heater 20. The gasolene is supplied to the chamber 25 through the pipe 83. When it is desired to fill the heater from-the putank the valve 29 is opened and air is 'iiorcedthrough pipe 33 by a rubber bulb or a other suitable device to the tank 25 and the pressure therein will cause the gasolene to fiow' through the pipe '27 and pipe 32 to the heater 20. 'l/Vhen it is desired to cause a ipressurein the heater 20,'va1ve 29 is closed "and valve 28 opened and air is then forced through the 'pipe33 to the chamber 25 from which it passes through the pipe 26 and pipe 32tothe heater-20. The valve 28 is a three- 7 way valve so that the air in the chamber 25 can be discharged through the valve 28 to theatmosphere when desired.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is: v V V l.
