Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 25, 15920.
Application filed November 26, 1919. Serial No. 340,753.
Be it known that I, \VILLIAM FRANK KasnoHM, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Van lVert, in the county of Van lVert and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vindow- Shade and Curtain-Pole Brackets; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved bracket for supporting a window shade and curtain pole. One object of the invention is to provide a bracket so constructed that it may he adjustably mounted and further to construct the bracket so that it may be releasably but securely held in an adjusted position.
Another object of the invention is to construct this bracket so that it may be formed of sheet metal cut the proper length and bent into the proper shape.
Another object of the invention is to construct this bracket so that it may be cheaply produced and to further construct it so that it may be easily and quickly put in place.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a View showing the curtain bracket in front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the improved bracket.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the supporting strip with which the bracket is adjustably connected.
This device comprises a bracket indicated in general by the numeral 10 and a support indicated in general by the numeral 11. The support 11 is formed from a strip of metal but the proper length and having its end portions bent to provide attaching feet 12 having openings 13 formed therein to receive the fastener screws 14. This support will be put in place and will extend transversely of the window casing one of the supports being positioned at each side of the casing near the upper end.
The bracket 10 is also formed from a strip of sheet metal which is bent intermediate its length to provide the standard or upright arm 15 having an upper arm 16 extending from its upper end and a bracing arm 17 extending upwardly from its lower end in diverging relation to the standard and con nected with the upper arm 16 by a rivet 1.8 which passes through the arm 16 and through a foot 19 formed by bending the free end portion of the bracing arm 17. The free end portion of the upper arm 16 extends beyond the upper end of the bracing arm and is bent to provide a socket 20 in which the curtain pole will rest, a set screw 21 being provided and extending through the free end of the strip to engage the curtain pole and to retain the pole in the socket or seat 20. A cross strip 22 extends from the standard 15 at a point above the seat 23 and is connected with the standard 15 and with the bracing arm 17. This cross strip 22 serves to brace the bracing arm 15 and is provided with a notch or cut out 24 providing a socket to receive the pintle of a curtain roller. It will thus be seen that when the curtain brackets are in place with one mounted upon each side of the upper portion of the window casing a curtain pole and a curtain roller may be supported by the two brackets. In order to releasably and adjustably' connect the brackets with the supporting strip 11 there has been provided a securing bolt 25 which extends through a slot 26 formed in the strip 11 and also extends through an opening formed in the standard 15 at the seat 23. If desired a block 27 may be placed upon the bolt thus providing efficient means for engaging the inner face of the strip 11 when the securing nut 28 is tightened to secure the brackets in a set position. By loosening the nut the brackets will be moved along the strip to a desired position and then again secured by tightening-of the nut. It has therefore been provided a curtain pole and shade roller support so constructed that it may be easily put in place and further so constructed that the bracket portion thereof may be securely but releasably held in an adjusted position for proper engagement with the pintle of a shade roller.
hat is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a supporting strip provided with a longitudinally extending slot and having its end portions bent to provide attaching feet having fastener receiving openings, a bracket formed of a strip bent to provide a standard having upper and lower arms extending therefrom, the lower arm being carried upwardly in diverging relation to the standard and connected to the upper arm to brace the upper arm, the upper arm having ably hold the bracket in an adjusted posi-.
tion on the supporting strip.
2. A device of the character described comprising a supporting strip provided with a longitudinally extending slot, a bracket having a standard bent intermediate its length to provide a seat for receiving said supporting strip, a fastener passing through the slot of said strip and through said standard, a block carried by said fastener for engaging the inner face of the strip when the fastener is tight to releasably hold the bracket in a set position, an upper arm extending from the standard and terminating in a pole receiving seat, the bracing arm eX- tending from the lower end of the standard and connected with the upper arm, and a strengthening strip positioned between the bracing arm and the standard having a pintle receiving seat.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
