Application filed October 5, 19m. Serial No. 123,577.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BUTLER MGMOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Argenta, in the county of Pulaski, State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Boxes for Automobiles; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descniption of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in ice boxes or containers, and more particularly to an ice box adapted for use on an automobilc or other vehicle for receiving and keeping food and other articles cool.
The invention consists in the several features and in the construction, combination and arrangement of features as more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention has for its object to provide an ice box or container which can be secured to an automobile, preferably on the running board thereof, in such almanner that it will occupy very little space, be very convenient and keep the articles therein in a cool and sanitary condition.
It further has for its object to provide an. ice box which will not only keep the articles cool therein, but will filter, cool and furnish drinking water.
It further has for its object to provide an ice box which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, easy and convenient to use and attractive in appearance.
It further has for its object to provide an ice box which is capable of being securely and easily attached to an automobile onother vehicle in such a manner that it will not become detached by the motion of the same and at the same time be readily detachable wh en ,desired.
It further has for its object to provide an ice boxwhich will carry a maximum amount of ice, and other articles such as ice cream, ginger pop, soda, coco cola, ginger ale, Sarsaparilla, milk, sandwiches, etc. and will occupy a minimum amount of space.
Referring to the drawings Fig. l. is a side view of the ice box and a portion of the running board of an automobile showing the ice box in place thereon.
Fig. 2. is a top plan view. Fig. 3. is a vertical section taken through the ice and filter compartments.
of any suitable material and especially adapted for useon automobiles, which com-' prises four double walled sides 2 having pack' 3therebetween and a hinged lid or cover all of which are of the well known construction.
The inside-of the ice box is. divided, into three compartments, a compartment 5 to contain, ice 6, a compartment 7 to contain an ice cream freezer 8 and other articles and a compartment 9 adapted to contain a filter. The ice box is provided with an inclined floor, or bottom 11, preferably inclined from front to rearthereof, which forms the floor of the three compartments before mentioned.
Just below the bottom, 11 is another inclined bottom 12, inclined in a reverse direction from the floor or bottom 11, and having downwardly inclined portion 13 at the front, the space between the floors or bottoms 11. and 12 for-min water chamber 14 for drinking water.
By having the floors or bottoms 11 and 12 inclined the water is prevented from settling or standing and becoming sta ant-and is caused to run or flow toward the faucets where it can all be drawn ofias often as desired, and in this way the ice box can bakept in a clean and sanitary condition.
A faucet 16 is provided which is inserted a filtered ice through the front wall of the ice box into the water chamber to afford means for draw-.
ing or dispensing drinking water and a fancet 15 is provided which is inserted through the rear wall of the ice box, into the ice compartment to afiord means for drawing ofi the waste water from theice.
' A filter tube or cylinder 17 is provided,
adapted to be inserted in the filter comartment 9 and contain unfiltered water and to be secured to the running board of an automobile by means of bolts or screws 24.
The ice box may be loaded or filled with ice and provisions before being secured to the running board of an automobile or it may be secured first and then loaded is found most convenient under existing cit cumstances. I
I do not'wish to be understood as limiting myself to the specific details of con struction and arrangement as herein de scribed and illustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifications may be made in the features of construction and arrange ment, in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use, without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variations and mmlifications as properly fall within the scope of my in vention and the terms of the following claims.
What I claim is 2- 1. In an ice box for automobiles, a cover therefor an ice compartment having an inclined floor, a filter compartment within the ice box and situated back of said ice compartment and provided with an inclined fioor with a hole or passage therethrough, a filter tube or cylinder supported entirely or Wholly within said filter compartment and provided with a filtering medium, a cup below the upper edge of the ice box adapted to fit over the top of said filter tube or cylinder and form an air and liquid tight closure and held in place by the cover of the ice box, an
of the said ice compartment and provided.
with aninclined floor with a hole or passage therethrough, a filter tube or cylinder sup ported within said filter compartment pro vided With a suitable filteringmedium, an imperforate cup adapted to fit over the top of said. filter tube or cylinder and substan tially in alinement with the upper edge of the ice box, a cover for said ice boX' adapted to contact with said imperforate cup and retain it in position on the filter tube or cylinder, a filtered water receiving compartment communicating with the filter compartmgint and means for allowing the with drawal of Water from the filter and ice compartments.
3. In an ice box for automobiles, afiltered Water compartment, an ice compartment having an inclined floor, filter and ice cream freezer compartments back of said ice compartment and within the ice box each having an inclined floor, a passage through the fioor of the filter compartment communicating with the filtered water compartment, a filter tube or cylinder Within said filter compartment provided with. a filtering medium, an imperforate cup adapted to fit over the top of said. filter tube and form a water and dust tight closure, acover for said ice box adapted to contact with said imperforate cup, on the closing of said cover, and thereby retain the said cup in position on the top vof the filter tube or cylinder and means for allowing the withdrawal of water from the ice and filtered Water compartments.
