- JOSHUA BQOROZIEB, OF CUMBERLAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTER-CARRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 122,758, dated January 16, 1872.
Specification describing certain Improvements in Packing and Shipping Butter, invented by JOSHUA B. GROZIER, of CumberlOand, in the county of Guernsey and State of The nature of my invention consists in the combination, with a box, of a series of removable shelves, which are snugly fitted in the box and separated from each other by cleats secured to the under side of each.
Figure 1 represents a vertical section of my improved box for shipping butter. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of one of the shelves.
The same letters of reference indicate identical parts.
The box A for shipping print or roll butter may be made of any desired form and capacity. Its interior is partitioned horizontally by a series of shelves, B, which are supported and kept separate from one another by cleats B fastened at the ends and upon the bottom side of each shelf or board. The height of the cleats will diifer in shelves of different boxes so as to make the space between the shelves of a capacity suited to the particular packages of butter intended to be shipped in the boxes. Each shelf is also provided with straps B for convenience in handling them.
Shelves constructed in this manner are very light and convenient, and when taken from the chest and placed on a table or counter with their load of butter the latter is elevated above the surrounding table, and the butter is more easily covered closely and protected from dust and dirt than if laid on a table. The shelves are also very easily cleansed, as there are no corners to collect and retain dustand dirt.
The box, having been packed, is closed by the lid A.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The shelves or tables B provided with cleats B beneath their ends and with plane upper surfaces, as and for the purpose described, in combination with the chest A.
