WALTER L. HILL, OF KENNA, NEW MEXICO.
HOT-WATER, DRUM.
Application filed July 21, 1916.
To all whom 2'6 may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER L. HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kenna, in the county of Chaves and State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iot-VVater Drums; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hot water drum and one of its objects is the provision of a device of this character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Another object of this invention is to provide a stove pipe with an enlarged portion to receive a water drum, whereby the heat from a stove passing through the stove pipe will be utilized for heating water within the drum.
A further object of this invention is to provide a pipe connected to a water main and extending through the enlarged portion of the stove pipe and the drum for supporting the drum within the stove pipe and supplying same with water.
\Vith these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fullydescribed and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of a hot water drum, constructed in accordance with my invention, and i Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of a boss formed on the enlarged portion of the stove pipe to receive a water supply pipe.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a section of a stove pipe mounted on a stove 2 and having a substantially oval-shaped enlarged portion 3 formed therein for the reception of a water drum 4, which has an oval top wall 5 and a fiat bottom wall 6. Formed on the bottom wall 6 of the drum 4 is an outlet pipe 7 that is con- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 191?. Serial No. 110,566.
nected with a pipe 8 which extends through the pipe 1 and has connected thereto a suitable valve 9 for controlling the outflow of water from the drum 4.
A pair of oppositely disposed bosses 10 are positioned upon the upper portion of the enlarged portion 3 of the stove pipe and receive a pipe 11 which extends through the oval top wall 5 of the drum a and has connected to one end a coupling 12 which is in turn connected to a water main (not shown). The other end of the pipe 11 is closed by a plug 13. The pipe 11 is provided with an opening 14 within the drum 4: for allowing water to pass outwardly of the pipe 11 into the drum.
In operation, the drum 4 is supplied with 'water through the pipe 11 by way of the opening 14 and may be drained therefrom through the pipe 8 and the valve 9 when desired. The heat passing upwardly from the stove 2 through the pipe 1 will hit the bottom wall 6 and be forced to pass around the drum 4 in the enlarged portion 3 to eiiiciently heat the water within the drum 4, thereby utilizing the waste heat that passes upwardly through a stove pipe from a stove.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is A device of the character set forth comprising a stove pipe having an enlarged portion therein, a drum located within said enlarged portion, means for draining water from the drum, a pair of oppositely disposed bosses positioned on'the enlarged portion,
of the stove pipe, a pipe extending through said bosses and through the drum and having an opening therein located within the drum, and means forv supplying the pipe with water to fill the drum.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
