GEORGE RAVENSHEAR, OF WEST EALING, ENGLAND.
TARGET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 17, 191'?.
Application led August 24, 1915. Serial No. 47,106.
To all whom t may concem:
Beit known that I, GEORGE RAvENsi-IEAR, a subject of the King of the United Kingdom of` Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 39 Broadway,'l/Vest Ealing, Middlesex, England, surveyor, have invented a rnew and useful Target, of which the following.
is a specification.
This invention relates to targets for use in miniature shooting ranges `and the essential features of the invention consist in mathematically proportioning or calculating the size of the figure on the target so that when viewed at a comparatively short range, the figure will appear to the marlrsman as if it were seen by him in real life at a much f understood and carried into effect I will now proceedto describe the same fully for which purpose reference should be had .to the accompanying drawing which shows a target embodying my invention.
In that embodiment of my invention illustrated the target A which may be of cardboard or any other suitable material bears the representation of a soldier the vital or important part of the flgurepbeing separated from the remainder by inclosing lines B kand/or by broken or dotted lines C said lines being either printed on the target or marked by a wire embedded or impressed in the substance of the target o r otherwise so placed as to allow ofdistinguishing between narrow escapes disabling hits or dangerous and probably `fatal or mortal hits. The different parts have different scoring values attached to same thus for example the parts C which inclose -the vital parts and organs of a human being `may have a value of ten assigned thereto as a hit there would probably kill outright. A hit on the other portion inclosed bythe line B may have a value of live assigned to it as a bullet in this part -would badly wound and incapacitate. A hit on other parts of the figure not inclosed bv lines B or C may have a value of two assigned to the same.
The figures on the targets may be in any color or combination of colors or in half tone as may be found necessary or desirable.
By the use of my improved target repre senting persons, animals or objects at specified ranges the recruit or marksman is also taught to recognize intuitively the correct range of the distant person, animal vor obj ect `that he is shooting at and marksmen can also be given special instruction in fixing ranges by linger measurements against the targets.
What I claim is y l. A target for miniature and other ranges comprising the representation of an object reproduced upon a surface the size of said object being mathematically proportioned so that. when viewed at a comparatively short range said object will appear to the marksman as if seen by him in real life at a vmuch greater range and a contrasting line on said object inclosing specific parts thereof for the purpose of allotting to them higher scoring values.
2. `A target for miniature and other ranges .comprising the representation of an object reproduced upon a surface the size of said object being mathematically proportioned so that when viewed at a comparatively short range said object `will appear to the marksman as if seen by him in real life at a much greater range and a contrasting line of wire embedded in said surface inclosing yspecific parts for the purpose of allotting to them higher scoring values.
' In testimony whereof I aix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE RAVENSHEAR.
