' UNITED STATES WILLIAM T. BENNETT,
PATENT OFFICE.
JB., OF COPE, COLORATO.
FENCE-POST BASE.
'Application tlled September 29, 1917. Serial No.
lle it known than l, WILMAM T. BENNETT, Jr., n ritizen ot' the llnited States. and a resident of ('ope. in the ronny of lWashin gt on und Stute of' Unlomdn. have invented :l new nml lmproieil Feline-Poet linsr, of :L full, (fleur, and exnrt deseription.
My invention relates to tubular bases or sorkets for receiving' n fence post` or the like, und more [mrtirulnrly is intended for 'emhmliment in reinforeed eonerete bases.
The prime oh'iefft ot the invention if; to prende n fence poet hner (it sui-h n form ne to drnn nml he ntl'mded Ventilntion Aa'hnrrlljy to preient nncunuilntion of n'ioiefnre lull would remit', in the rottingv ol the 11'.. l.

Fig. l i;- n infrspemive vien' Employed.
i rg. :3 .-4 :i plan View oi' the cover that, may niii'im'ell on niv improved baise.
la f'arni'ing out my invention in p action, i produce i 'Tubular shell designate? gen ('inlljy" by the numeral 10 forming th i saine et' reinforced concrete, there being indicated annular reinforcing Wires 11 at various heights in the' shell. The said shell is 'Foz-ined with n. thronghhore and is tapering nherehy to fiere upwardly.
(2n the shell 10 at the interior I produce, nt une side thereof a pair of vertical ribs 12. mid ."ihs being curved transversely to eonfnrln approximately to the external surface of n pont; A.
Dinmetrieally opposite the nbs 12, I proo i :1 wedge vide n horizontal set screw 13 which engages n. mit lill which is received between rtial ribs 15 so that; the nut. is prevent-` from turning. The eet screw is adapted te hind Specification of Letters Patent.

As seen Clearly in Fig. 1 the cover is eonienl to shed the send ete.. blown against the seme.
I wish to state in eonclnsion that nlthough the illustrated example confititutes)` :i prneti` Cal en'xbodiment, of my invention. l lo not limit myself strictly to the mechanical de tails herein illustrated, sineemnnifenliy the seme can be ronsidernhly varied without di partum from the spirit m the in vention ne defined in the appended elnims.
Having thus described my invention. l

('laiin as new, and desire to set-nre by Letters Patent 1. A base for fence posts or the like including a tubular shell having a throughbore to receive the post, the said shell having" laterally spaced vertical fixed ribs on the interior at one side thereof, against which the post may take a bearing, said ribs extenrling apiiroximately the full helght of the shell and adjustable means on the shell at the opposite side from the ribs and adapted to exert pressure against the postfin thc direction of the said ribs, said ribs serving to form with the post an air space around the post between the saine and the shell.
:2. A base for fence posts including a shell, having spaced vertical ribs at a side thereof at the interior of the shell and` extending approximately the fnl] height of the shell, ribs on the post lianietricallf opposite the first ribs and extending from approximatrlyv the top of the shell downwardly. a short distance, a nut held between said second rilJs,-
and a set screw extending transversely through the shell and having threaded engagement with said nnt to bind the post lirinly against the first mentioned ribs.
Si. A base for fence posts or the like including a tubular shell having an upwardly flaring throngihbore to receive the post, the said shell having spaced vertical ribs on the ii'ilerior at one Side thereof, against which the post may take a hearing, and means on the shell at the opposite side adapted to exert press-nre against the post in the direction of the said ribs, said ribs serving to forni with the post an air space around the posthetween the saine and the shell, together with wedge means adapted to bear against; the post and shell at the side of the post opposite the said ribs at each side of the firstv mentioned means.
