Be it known that I, ALONZO: A; WARNER, a citizen of the aUni't'ed States, and a resident of New Britain, county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Safety Razors, of which the following is a specifi-' catlon.

The object of this invention is to produce an article of the character described having features of novelty and advantage.

Referring to the drawings, a is the handle secured to the base 6. In the'embodiment of Figs. 1 to 3 and 5 inclusive, the base has a rear upstanding flange a projecting at either end to form a stop d. e is the clamp having at its end near the rear edge depending ears 7, f; a spring 9 passes through an aperture in the handle and has its ends engaged with apertures in the ears 7, f, the aperture in the handle being slightly out of line with the apertures in the ears, in order to place the spring under a slight tension. Projecting from the rear edge of the clamp is a thumb piece h preferably bent out of the plane of the clamp. The spring tends to draw the front edge of the clamp plate down onto the blade near the guard. The projections hold the clamp plateagainst slipping rearwardly on the base. Pressure on the thumb piece causes the clamp plate to fulcrum on the upstanding flange at the rear edge of the base, raising the forward edge of the clamp plate to release the blade. As shown in this instance the blade 70 has a rib at its rear edge fitting a slight depression is in the base. The type of blade used with this holder is not material to the invention.

In the embodiments of the invention selected for illustration and description, the

extreme simplicity of the structure, which results from the small number of parts and the simplicity of their construction and assembly, will be immediately apparent; One feature of the invention of particular importance is the peculiar form and arrangement of the spring, seated centrally of its length in an aperture in the upper end of the handle underneath the base, the spring being' arranged longitudinally of the base and operatively engaged with the clamp to hold it securely in position. A second and important feature of the invention is to be found in the use of this spring as the connecting means between the clamp and the base. In other words, the spring really performs a dual function; first, of being the the spring is relied upon both as a connecting means and as an actuating means for the clamp.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have described the principle of operation of my invention, together with the apparatus which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the apparatus shown is only illustrative, the invention can be carried out by means.

I claim 2- j 1. A holder for safety razor blades, comprising a handle with a base plate fixedly secured to the upper end thereof, a spring arranged under and longitudinally of sand base plate, a support in which the central portion of said spring is removably mounted, and a clamp plate operatively positioned above said base plate and engaged by the ends of said spring.

2. In a holder for safety razor blades, a handle, a base plate fixedly secured thereother and that ends which are engaged with said clamp plate.

3. In an article of the character described,

a base including a handle, a clamp arranged on the upper surface of said base, a flange at the rear edge of one of said parts 00- operating Withthe other part to form a fulcruni for said clamp, a spring uniting said clamp and base, and means for preventing the rearward movement of said clamp on said base.

' 4. In an article of the character described a handle apertured at itsupper ends a base niounted at the upper end of said handle, a

spring arranged longitudinally of and under said base and supported centrally of its length in the aperture of said handle, a

clamp fulcrumed on said base and operatively engaged With the ends of said spring.
