Description

. chamber.
Jon J. B. rain, or DETROIT, MICHIGAN;
. INJECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented llllctli 26, ll l v Application filed December 16, 1916. Serial No. 137,296.
1/ 0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. B; TRIX, a citizen of the United States, residing t De troit, county or l l' -ayne, State of Michigan,
have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Injectors, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of thesame, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to injectors and an object or" my improvements is to secure greater efiiciency in the performance of such apparatus. 7
I secure this object in the device illus trated in the accompanying drawing in which, i i
The figure is a longitudinal. section in elevation.
m is the discharge tube, having the spill or relief apertures (Z through its wall. a is the steam chamber, Z) a suction chamber, 0 the overflow chamber and (Z is a chamber with which said relief apertures communicate. i
0 are the. overflow apertures through the wall of the tube 172 communicating with the.
inclosed overflow chamber 0 and c?" is a valve closing the otherwise open upper end of said 0 is the discharge passage with which the port of the valve 0 communicates. d is a valve interposed between the dis charge passage 0 and the spill or relief chamber (Z and opening toward said chamber. (Z is a guide extending downward through the port 111 the valve (Z and having its lower end closely ad acent to the valve and above the same.
The valve (l reciprocate in a chamber, the cross-sectional area of which it nearly fills, so that its automatic return to its seat is retarded because the water must flow from below to above said valve.
The operation of the above described de vice is s follows:
. In the operation of an injector, as here tofore constructed, water has been discharged from the relief or spill passages (Z and discharged to the waste or to the overflow chamber where it re'nters the tube and is carried to the boiler or is again discharged through the passages (Z Byinterposing the valve d 'between the chamber 03 'and the overflow passage the water discharged from the passages (Z is held in the chamber (Z and the loss incident to its discharge or projection is obviated. Vhen, in the action of the injector there is a dis charge from the apertures c a pressure accumulates in the overflow chamber (2 and this will raise the valve 0 which will strike against the guide dtraising the valve (P opening the chamber (Z, in which case the discharge from both thechambers c and (Z will pass into the discharge passage 0.
When the flow of water is established, the valve 0 is drawn suddenly to its seat but the fiow through the passage (Z coutinues until the valve (Z is closed when the water is projected directly into the boiler.
What I claim is: i
1.111 an injector having an overflow chamber, a discharge tube having a relief passage through the wall thereof, a closed chamber into which said passage opens, a port in the wall of said closed chamber,
a valve controlling said port, closing with the pressure in said chamber and opening against said pressure, and automatic means actuated by the pressure in the overflow chamber tor opening said valve.
2. In an injector having an overflow chamber, a discharge tube having a relief passage through the wall thereof, a closed chamber into which said passage opens, a port in the wall of said closed chamber. a valve controlling said port, closing with the pressure in said chamber and openingagainst said pressure, and means for retard ing the closing motion of said valve.
3. In an injector having an overflow chamber, a discharge tube having a rel iet passage throughthe wall thereof at the narrowest portion of the bore of said tube, a closed chamber into which said passage opens, a port in the wall of said closed chamher, a valve controlling said port, closing chamber, a valve 0 adapted to be opened by pressure in the overflow chamber and to close toward said chamber, said valve being adapted to force the valve (Z open as the valve 0* rises from its seat,'said valves being arrangedso that the valve 0 shall close be fore the valve d substantially as and for the purpose described. 7 v
In testimony whereof, Isign this. specification. 7 7 JOHN J. B. TRIX.
