Description

0. MONASCH.
INDICATOR.
APPLICATION HLED SEPT-25,1915.
1,255 %9, Patented Feb.12,1918.

v mnron ron.
Specification of Letters li'atent. Patented Felt. 1L2, 119118..
Application filed September 25, 1915. Serial No. 52,681.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DA\ID MONASCH, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented-certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same.
This invention relates to indicators, and has for its primary object to provide an indicator especially designed for attachment to the door of a hospital patients room adapted to be set by the doctor in attendance,
or other authorized person, for indicating to visitors whether or not the dition to receive company. With this and other objects in view, the
patient is in con- 'invention consists in the novel construction,
arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed 1 and illustrated in the accompanying drawing; in which:
Figure 1 represents a front elevation o the indicator, partly in section,
Fig. 2 represents a vertical sectional view through a door, illustrating the indicator applied to use thereon,
F i'g. 3 represents a cator disk removed,
Fig. 4 represents a rear elevation of the adjusting knob of the indicator removed.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the front I plate of the indicator, which is preferably formed of glass and providedat its upper and lower portions with extensions 6 and 7,
respectively, through which are formedaper- I1 formed transverselyth-rough the door ,9
tures adapted to receive screws 8, whereby' the plate is secured .in position above the door knob (not shown) of a door 9 (Fig. 2). The lower extension 7 is formed with a horizontal slot 10 adapted to removably receive a card, or the like, upon which is marked inalinment with an aperture 12 formed centrally through the. front plate 5. The
front plate 5 is secured by" the screws 8to the outer face of the door -9 and area: late plan view of the indi- 14 is secured to the inner face of the door and is formed with a central aperture 15 reg istering with the apertures 11 and 12.
A shaft 16 is rotatably mounted in the aperture 11 and projects outwardly of the front and rear plates 5 and 14 respectively. The rear or inner surface of the front plate 5 is formed with a circular recess 17 rotatably receiving an indicator disk 18, which latter is formed with a central rectangular aperture 19 non-rotatably receiving the c0rrespondingly shaped forward portion 20 of the shaft 16. A knob 21 is positioned upon the rear end of the shaft 16 and is adapted to be secured in adjusted position thereon "by a setscrew 22. A knob 23 is secured to the forward end of the shaft 16 in front of the front plate 5. V
The wall of the upper portion of the recess 16 is cut away, as indicated at 23, to receive the ends of a spring 24 having a ll-shaped medial portion 25, adapted to engagewithin the correspondingly shaped recesses 26 formed in the disk 18 at spaced intervals to retain said disk in adjusted position. W 7
Except for the transparent portions 26 and 27 provided in front of the disk 18 and the slot 10, the front plate 5 is frosted or otherwise rendered translucent or opaque. The card bearing the name of the physician attending the person is visible through the transparent portion 26, while markin s 28 upon the front face of the disk 18 are visible arranged in the periphery of the disk that when one group of words is, in position behind the transparent portion 27 of the front plate the V-shaped medial ortion 25 of the spring engages within the isk and thus re- "fan-1s. the latter in adjusted position. The. "rear-surface of "the adjustin ,knob 21 for .--the' diskis provided with mar ings su ng- 'la'r jtojthose' upon the'front face-on the dlsk- 18 and arranged in a position corresponding to. theiposition of the markings upon the disk, whereby the words visiblethrough the no transparent portion 27 may be readily ascertained from Within the room of the patient.
What I claim is:
An indicator including front and rear plates, a shaft rotatably supported in the plates,' the front plate having a circular recess in the rear surface thereof, an indicator disk rotatablysupported in said recess and non-rotatably secured upon the shaft and having recesses in the edge thereof, a leaf spring arranged in the recess and provided with a ll-shaped medial portion to engage in the recesses of the disk, both ends of the spring being engaged with the Wall of the recess to present equal resistance to the rotary movement of the disk in either direction, and an operatingknob secured to the rear extremity of the'shaft.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
