DINING-TABLE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 25, 1914.
Application filed February 17, 1912. Serial No. 678,226.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRVING J. Bone, a citizen of the United States, residing at Olympia, in the county of Thurston and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dining-Table Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved dining table attachmentfespecially adapted for usev used in connection with any ordinary dining table and which may be readily attached thereto and detached therefrom.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.
In'the drawing :Figure 1 is a perspective view of a childs dining tray or dining table attachment constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same in connection with a portion of'an ordinary dining table arid to which the same is attached. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional viewof my improved childs dining tray, a portion of the dining table to which the same is attached being indicated in elevation.
In accordance with my invention, I provide an improved childs dining tray or dining table attachment, which comprises a bottom 1, low end walls 2, a low outer wall 3 and a comparatively high inner wall 4, the latter being adapted to bear against one side of the top of an ordinary dining table 5, as shown, and arranged to dispose the bottom 1 of the childs tray or dining attachment at a lower elevation than the top of the dining table. This inner wall 4 is provided at its center on its inner side, with a vertical plate 6, which has a horizontal arm 7 at its upper end, the said arm being arranged, to bear on the upper side of the table top 5. On the opposite side of the inner wall 4: is secured a plate 8 which has a horizontal guide arm 9 at its upper end and a correspondingly disposed arm 10 at its lower end. The arm 10 is provided with a threaded opening which is engaged by the threaded portion of a clamping screw 11.
The said clamping screw has a reduced stem which operates in an opening in the guide arm 9 and has an engaging head 12 at its upper end to bear against the under side of the'table top. The lower end of the clamping screw is here shown as provided-with wings 13 to enable the same to be readily turned manually to clamp or release the tray or dining tray attachment.
It will be understood from the foregoing description and by reference to the drawings that my improved childs tray or dining table attachment may be readily attached to or detached from an ordinary dining table and it will also be understood that the bottom of the tray or attachment is lower than the table top and. that, hence, a child using the tray or attachment may be seated on an ordinary chair, thus rendering the use of a high chair for such child, when eating at the table, unnecessary.
I claim A device of the character described comprising a tray, said tray being substantially L-shaped, a channel-shaped member having its base secured to one of the sides of said tray, a right angular metal strap having one side secured to the opposite face of said, last mentioned side of said tray, and having its opposite side projecting forwardly of the sides of said channel-shaped member, a threaded bolt operating in one of the sides of said channel-shaped member, a head formed upon said bolt, said bolt having an unthreaded extension projecting through the remaining sideof said channel-shaped member, and a flat disk. secured at the end of said rod extension and adapted to move toward said metal strap.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
IRVING J. BURD.
Witnesses E. L. Pam, F. H. MARTIN.
